The file C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\My Videos\sample.mpg cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

1. Go to
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.htm
and download the K-Lite Codec Pack FULL.

2. Run and Install the K-Lite Codec Pack. Make sure you do not un-check anything.

3. Open up Windows Movie Maker, go to Tools > Options... > Compatibility.

4. Check “ffdshow Video Decoder."

5. Press OK.

6. Now you can import video .avi files! reply

I have this same problem.

I have followed ALL the advice on here and still get the identical error message.

I used to be able to make movies with Moviemaker but now it refuses to import ANY video I have made. reply

If you don’t want to update your WM Player or WM Maker, then download and install the 'official' XDiv & DivX codecs from divxmovies(dot)com/codec/ and xvidmovies(dot)com/codec/

It works for me ;)

Just say 'no' to install unnecessary codec packs with tons of spyware and other malware inside !!!

Good Luck reply
