Hi everyone,
Try to use mediainfo to verify your codec. Click on the bar to check the lattest version of your codec... download it et retry with Window Movie Maker... This thing work for me!
Alguem sabe onde baixar codec para Windows Movie Maker ?
Aproveito a oportunidade e deixo abaixo um site legal para quem quer conhecer a cidade de Extrema MG - Brasil.

hey you guys i read all of this and i got same problem but i need to download codec were can i or how can i download codec?
The file C:\.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.
I am getting this error message when trying to install a movie clip into movie maker. It plays ok in movie maker on its own. I can import all my other movie clips ok?
Any ideas apart from system restore?

HELLO!!!!!!!!
I HAVE FOUND A WAY BUT IT SEEMS EVERYBODY IS TO LAZY TO READ “ALL” THE POSTS....BECAUSE IF THEY DID, THEY WOULD HAVE TRIED MY WAY...Sorry getting off, but I just dont understand why people I saying that they havent found a solution, somebody please posts if this did not work for them....
AS I SAID:
“I have found a way. Go to your windows start menu then to programs, accesories, system tools, and then click on “system restore”. After this just choose the date before this error had occured.
Note: If you had installed any new programs after this error you will loose them but not the information you saved on them. Example: I had lost my iTunes program but when I reinstalled I still had all my songs on the program. So dont worry about loosing any vital information."
Instead of killing youself trying to find codec, do this.....It worked very well for me....
NOw I hope I dont see anymore “But still no answer”....I have one!!! Use it!!!
hey bob, what if i just got it right now for the first time and it was my first time ever using windows movie maker? lol.. hm.. how far should i restore my comp??? yeah, i need a different answer.
good post, but it doesnt apply to me. I never installed new programs that started this issue. I had a quicktime mov and converted it to microsoft Windows Media player. It works fine. but when i try to import it into movie maker. it gives me the codec error.
to bob2:
Not everyone is willing to lose a lot of stuff just for that, I don’t want to lose this program that I don’t have a back up for, it took me forever to find and setup >.>
I use I tunes which requires quick time, somehow Quicktime robs my machine and converts all imported movie files I take with my camera to .MOV - I want to use Windows Movie maker but it will not import the files. I tried to find a codec but am not savvy to where to look or how to solve my problem. 1. any way to stop Quick time from robbing the incoming files? or 2. Anyway to fix Movie Maker to allow .Mov files Thanks for your suggestions.
Had the same problem, downloaded the DivX codec, now it’s importing the files. Thanks to whoever suggested just downloading the DivX codec. Hopefully won’t run into anymore problems.
i have a solution.you have to download a codec for wmm.....once i downloaded this codec but i lose it !!!
everytime i try to download a video from DIVx or Stage6 i comesp on WMP and says "“Windows Media Player cannot play this file. Connect to the Internet or insert the removable media on which the file is located, and then try to play the file again.""
