How do I check what codec do I need to play a videl file. I have this mpeg video and I cant play it with any of my media player. can someone help me on this?

Ive got a total of 3.12GB files that I cant play. sad

Hi,

I think .m2v is MPEG2 video files. Try rename the files to end in .MPG or .MPEG and see if any media player can play them (ms media player may need some extensions).

You do not need to register on this forum. It’s one of its strengths and weaknesses :-) No registration: more people post and more open discussions. However, also more bullshit posted.

Divx player and media player is fine. It does not really matter that much which player you use. I, for instance, only use media player version 6.4~. What matters is which codecs you have installed :-)

Think the m2v format (mpeg2) is created from software TMPG see(http://www.doom9.org/mpg/tmpg-dvdencoding.htm), a dvd encoder. I play mine using msi dvd. Seems fine.

Just had that problem, renamed the end of the file to mpg from m2v, worked perfectly, thanks smiley
