i downloaded it, opened it and this popped up:

16 bit Windows Subsystem

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Chose 'close' to terminate the application.

My problem in the fist place: I go to play a movie and this pops up:

Indeo Video Playback
The program you are trying to run requires a current Indeo codec. To obtain a current driver that is compatible with this version of Windows, please contact the manufacturer at http://indeo.ligos.com.

To run the program, click continue. For more information, click details.

If i press continue, I get audio, but no video.

Essentially, my computer now restarts when ever I try and play any video file, even web based.

SOS patch hasn’t worked for me, I should have paid the $15!

Anyone any ideas - will a download of Indeo official sove the restart?

John do you have SP1 loaded?

The reason I ask: I remember seeing a recent post by sos regarding WinXP SP1 and this Indeo codec.

I have searched the site but can’t find it again. But if my memory serves me right; this guy wrote the codec & mentioned some issues with it when SP1 was loaded. Might be worth emailing them to see if they can contact him??

http://www.fourcc.org/index.php?http%3A//www.fourcc.org/codecs.php

I will trawl my newsgroups and see if I can pick it out again and will be sure to post here if I can.

Thx, Jason.

Guest> sounds like the s/w you are using is pretty new. Like Jason says do you have sP1 loaded? IF yes uninstall. Microsoft tightened the xp kernel so that some of the calls this codec made at a low hardware level no longer work. Newer software can recognise this codec. Microsoft/Intel/Ligos have a commercial interest in this codec. They want to make $$ from it. The good news is the author of the original codec (SOS) has completely re-written it to work with Windows XP SP1 and has released it to the public domain(FREE).

Download it from http://www.bell-labs.com/blsoftware.html or e-mail the author at: keepcodecsfree@fastmail.fm

Do you guys actually mean SP1 or SP2 for windows xp? Few games and apps I tried with indeo codec wouldnt work with SP2 installed but were ok with SP1a. All of them work *without* SP2 installed. Hoping for typo’s when SP1=SP2 (!), Greg.

How would Intel gain money off of this after selling it to Ligos? I’d also want to know how Microsoft would make money off of this.

I would need proof that SOS is the original author of Indeo. I’d also love to hear what Ligos has to say about your claim that Indeo is public domain.

You’d have to explain to me why a link to bell labs is included. I certainly wasn’t able to locate any codecs on that page. The e-mail address is also suspicious.

OK here goes hope someone can help.

On my old PC which was an intel Risk II was installed(US version so had to use CD to play after max install) and all worked fine.

New PC is a AMD Sempron have installed said game and it installed fine but when I load disc to play after initial Hasbro graphics appear game bombs back to desktop asking for the latest Indeo drivers........Installed them and still get no joy.

Tried all different kinds of things but all to no avail, any ideas would be mucho appreciated.
