hitman47RegularI was thinking to myself yesterday that it would be easier if I could just install 1 thing and all of the codecs were on my computer so I wouldn’t have to install each one by itself and I found the Nimo codec pack and installed it.
I then tried to play a video I had previously been able to play to see if what everyone had said about codecs was true and I was pissed off and stopped installing these packs because my video had gone from perfect in fullscreen to the worst thing I had ever seen(even worse than the level in Metal Gear Solid 2 in which you play as nude Raiden) bt that was still disgusting.
Now can anyone help me install the correct codecs so I can play all of my videos at a good speed like fullscreen good but I’ll settle for 1/3 screen size.
Just help.
someone who knows

try the bicubic resizer, featured in the tsunami filter packe 3.9.3, or KazaaLite Codec pack 1.7.
you don’t have to install all codecs, just choose the bicubic resizer, that’ll turn your video back round again.

hitman47RegularI meant that my video is messed up.
The screen around the video goes black as if it is in full screen and the video stays in 1/4 screen view.
Then it moves from one part of the screen to the other.
middle-left to middle top, etc
This has happened every time I install a pack with DivX codecs in it.
Can it be fixed or just leave those codecs off because if I leave them off then I can only play 1/3 of my videos.

hitman47RegularI’m just going to redo my whole codec section.
Can anyone give me codecs or codec packs that will stop all this buggy behavior and fix my problems with plying video files?
I am supposedly missing a few codec saccording to DXMan-a program I downloaded that is suppose to monitor the codecs that are installed on my computer but it says I’m missing these:
DivX Decoder filter
Mpeg 4 Decoder DMO
Mpeg 4s Decoder DMO
MS Screen decoder DMO
Ogg Multiplexer
Ogg Splitter
WMAudio Decoder DMO
WMVideo 8 Decoder
WMVideo Decoder
What is DMO?
Why are these missing WMP 9 codecs are iunstalled?
Where can I download these from?

hitman47RegularI don’t need these:
Mpeg 4 Decoder DMO
Mpeg 4s Decoder DMO
MS Screen decoder DMO
WMAudio Decoder DMO
WMVideo 8 Decoder
WMVideo Decoder
because I downloaded the windows media player 8 codec pack and they’re in it but for some reaon they weren’t seen by DX Man(A codec program I downloaded)
Why aren’t they seen if they’re in the list of codecs I need?

Video & Codec Problems: Resolution and Blocky Picture: Pixilated Picture & Motion Freeze
I’m having the same freaking problem but a little different! I’m having video resolution and playback problems but it started off totally different. Everything worked fine about a week ago until I loaded some new codecs for two videos that didn’t work. I hate codecs and maybe someday someone will make or invent a “Universal Codec Package” - Holy Shiznet!
Anyway, I’m having all sorts of problems, sort of. I had two videos that didn’t play properly and found out I had an old version of Divx from a check with “GSpot – codec and avi checker”. So I upgraded to the new version of Divx 5.1.1. Well, the videos still did not work ok, but then some other videos I had did start working that had never worked before after installing the new Divx codec (half the problem was thus solved).
I then found out I needed the Xvid codec for these two videos that (one played just green with audio, and the other was watchable but had green garble in it; green haze after pixel effects). So I installed Divx 5.1.1 and Nimo Codec Pack and after installing it messed up my Divx 5.1.1 codec
. Then, I uninstalled the Divx codec and it would not let me play any Divx movies past version 4. Then, I thought I would try to install the “ffdshow” codec pack and that solved the audio problem
, but messed up the Xvid videos again
. I went back and forth trying different things with no avail! Darn (grinding my teeth)
! Now here’s the sizzler!!!!....
Now after all of that (and also a failed attempt to install WMP9 hoping this would solve the problem, but made it worse because of sluggish playback, which I quickly uninstalled with restore in Win XP Pro). Now after all of that my divx movies stall and freeze for a few seconds but after a few seconds continue playing normal again for any movie at or under Divx 5.0 and later movies
. Also, I have an ATI card and I usually record movies/cartoons both at either MP1 or MP2. Now recordings look bad and blocky, and so does all other videos I have (except for Xvid and Divx 5 and over videos – look good). And when I record or play “interlaced” mp2 videos I do not see any lines in the video anymore (which you are suppose to see in the video itself for DVD authoring)...and all I see is crappy blocky video pixels and it looks like junk after recording mp2 interlaced 352x480 video for DVD authoring.
So here’s the conclusion. Now all my videos play and that’s good, but they do not play at the quality that they had played at before ?
. Before, all my videos were nice and crisp with a nice resolution – I was not complaining a week ago
, until now (after doing all this for just two Xvid videos that would not play; I didn’t know they were Xvid at the time, and I found out later they were Xvid and didn’t play – that’s why I did all of this)!
Also, my Windows Media Player 8 did not hesitate before this codec dilemma; now it does sometimes when playing Divx 5 or above videos. My videos did not freeze up before; now they do once in awhile along with the sluggishness and pixel blockiness/blurriness. My videos played clear before; now they play blocky and blurry a little more. Before, I could distinguish between mp1 and mp2 video capture; now it looks the same and pixilated and somewhat a little blurry at that. Also, quick note, It seems all new Divx 5.0 or later encoded videos play fine with no pixilation or blurriness, but my other videos (no matter what they are encoded with) play like crap and do not look like they use to look (beautiful and clean without blotchiness).
I’m at my wits end and don’t know what to do anymore (I know I could reformat my HD but I’m in no situation to do that considering what I have to back up before doing so).
!
I’ve tried to install Windows Media Player 9; didn’t work
. I had to take WMP9 back off and rolled back my system to WMP8 again which is much better than 9. Now I hope I didn’t harm my system even further with installing this WMP9 junk, and hope that is not what messed up everything. !
I’ve rolled back my system for codecs too; didn’t work
. I really wish I could start fresh with these codecs and wish I had never messed with them for just wanting to play one or two stinking Xvid videos. My ATI recordings are more important than a downloaded Xvid video that will not play correctly.
I’m not going to reformat because I know this is a codec problem or WMP problem, but I think it is a codec conflict somewhere
. Because the videos that played correctly before all of this I did play like junk now. I would like to know if there is anyone out there who might have any suggestions, solutions, links, other forums, programs, or ANY knowledge as to what I should do here
!
? Should I delete certain codecs from my system? (I can supply you a list). Should I get the remnants of WMP9 off my computer if that is what is messing up my video playback (and how do I do that)? I don’t think that is a problem because I played my videos in other video players i.e. ATI Player, RealPlayer, WMP8, and Musicmatch, etc and it all plays the same (so don’t think it’s a player problem)
. That’s why I really think some of my codecs are conflicting or I have a bad codec build somewhere
?
Here’s what I have in general: Divx Pro 5.1.1, Nimo5build8, ffdshow-20040520, XviD-1.0.1-05062004. Now mind you I didn’t load the full packages for each one, I loaded only the codecs I needed. Those are just some of the latest codecs I loaded and put on my XP Pro system. I don’t know if they were/are still there, but that is what I have either loaded, etc in the process. Do codecs ever come off your system or do new ones just overwrite old ones, etc? I would like to know of a way to clean my codecs, system, or should I clean the registry, WMP8 or what???
I’m grinding teeth and pulling my hair out here…thanks everyone for reading this very long term paper here. Any help will be much appreciated and I might even reward it. If any has any similar problems let me know and maybe we can work this out together.
Thanks

hitman47RegularYou should try downloading Ad-aware(Update this often)
from their site and if you have Norton antivirus
update this as much as possible.
Also keep your computer software updated
Download WMP 9 again and go to their codec download
site and download the codec pack here and there’s also
a pack at the bottom which allows most codecs to work
with WMP
OR
go to Download.com and try these:
BS Player
X-Player(Make sure it’s the one that doesn’t have a
greenish icon)
Vi-Player 2.09

Hey Hitman...thanks for the advice. I did all of what you suggested and still with no luck!? I did notice that www.BSplayer.com is a lot better than WMP8 or WMP9 - by a long shot
. I really love this BSplayer...it’s sweet! Although (sigh)...my problem is not resolved because of everything you suggested I have tried
You See, my main issue is that my “interlaced” MP2 videos that I record do not play as “crisp and clean” as they use to before loading all these new codecs. Plus, when enlarging them (while playing) they hesitate and struggle to fit to full screen (in WMP but not BSplayer) - Although, like I said, my main issue is that my video is not looking as good as it use to and I’ve tried everything - it looks blotchy and blocky; unless I am being picky and did not notice this two weeks ago, but I’m sure it’s not as good (this only goes for certain videos) and not the new encoded 5.11 Divx videos (any divx movie encoded after 5.0 looks too smooth like it has a filter on it); just the videos that are encoded below Divx 5.1.1 look blotch and pixilated! I have loaded the Div3 codec and still looks the same.
Here’s the main scoop: “Between scenes of a movie it will show a pixilated trail when switching from one scene to the next or when in fast motion." - Then if there is too much motion it gets pixilated and blotchy.- That’s the problem. When the motion slows down it somewhat looks normal and when it speeds up again it gets pixilated.
I can export my .CSV Excel list of codecs from the “AVIcodec” program...would anyone be able to help me if they can look at a list of codecs I have on my computer? Any other suggestions?
Thanks a bunch,
Kraig

FrightfoORegularHave ya configured FFDShow?
First uninstall all of these:
Divx Pro 5.1.1, Nimo5build8, ffdshow-20040520, XviD-1.0.1-05062004
Then only install the ffdshow-20040520 directshow filter. During installation ONLY tick DivX 3, DivX 4, DivX 5 and XviD.
Try playing some DivX and XviD files. Are they playing ok, or badly?
If certain files are playing not so good, leave ffdshow-20040520 installed, but configure it, so that it doesn’t playback or decode certain content. For example, if DivX 3 content isn’t playing that greatly go into (XP) - Start>All Programs>ffdshow>Configuration>Codec, and untick DivX 3.
In the case of DivX 3 not playing back that greatly, you could install DivX 3.11a. ONLY if FFDShow’s not working too well:
http://www.filemirrors.com/search.src?file=DivX_311alpha.zip
Two things that never need to be installed are:
Divx Pro 5.1.1 (free version from site)
Nimo5build8

hitman47RegularKraig,
Did you also scan your system afeter removing Nimo?
Note: I still use WMP 9
and I have no video problems (Except when I try to play yahoo’s music videos)
but, besides that I have no problem with it.
you could try what FrightfoO suggested but I’ve never had problems with it the way it was setup.
Do you have a new computer or lower than 2000?
What are you running '98, 2000, ME, XP

I’m still working on it guys...will let you know what happens. Right now I’m in the middle of something else. My videos are playing...every one of them, except just blocky-pixelated-fuzzy pictures for some of them still. Mostly the Div3 ones (I think).
It seems that since I loaded the new Divx 5.1.1 Pro (I even dowloaded Dr.Divx "$40 version” with the crack and it works fine) but I originally started off with the free Divx5.1.1 Pro version which messed up everything, ran Spybot-Search & Destroy got rid of the spyware, etc. Still, nothing. Now, the reason I upgraded to Dr.Divx is I thought it would make a difference, but still is messing with my videos resolution, blur effect and freeze ups. Even added the anti-freeze codec with no avail.
Well, sorry I haven’t messed with it too much yet. I’ve been doing a few other things (besides getting over a weekend cold)...I’ll get back ASAP and let you know. I’m gonna dig into it a lot more today or tomorrow.

This is my system:
WinXP Pro SP1
1.4 GHZ AMD Athlon processor
768M Memory
64MB Radeon ATI all-in-wonder video card
200GB HD
Have Spybot, Adaware, etc, and clean out my computer almost every other day=cache, cookies, temp, etc etc etc
Believe me my computer runs like a charm. Just not working for the video like it did two weeks ago before this stupid codec thing.
Another thing that I haven’t tried that might work is downloading the Catalyst from www.ati.com (for my video card) which includes the latest drivers, codecs (i think) for the All-In-Wonder Cards. That might be the trick and I’ll let you know. Maybe loading the new codecs overwrote my old graphics card chip codecs or drivers or something like that
Then I’m going to try what FrightfoO suggested !
Thanks guys and keep up the “problem solving” thinking process. We’ll solve this irritating thing together.
Until Then,
Kraig
P.S. You know it’s weird, after letting my computer set for one night, WMP worked normal with some of these videos. Then later today it stalled again and slowed down. Is there a way to totally remove WMP and start fresh with it?

FrightfoORegularI haven’t used the DivX codec for a while now. I usually encode using the XviD codec or RV9 with AC3, MP3 or AAC audio these days
Which codecs or filters do you currently have installed?
FFDShow as a directshow filter has the ability to decode/playback DivX 3, DivX 4, DivX 5, XviD etc. It needs to be configured to do so though - Start>All Programs>ffdshow>Configuration>Codecs. On the right side. Under 'Decoder' choose libavcodec for the various DivX’s and XviD.
From that point on FFDShow will always be doing the decoding as it overrides anything else codec being used.
Also if the Div3 (aka - DivX 3.11a - aka DivX 3.11 Alpha) stuff is not playing that well, it might be because DivX 5.xx is trying to play the video. DivX 5.xx isn’t backward compatible with DivX 3.11a. DivX Networks don’t officially support DivX 3.11a.

Hey Frightfo0 or Anyone Anyone Else...
I posted my 4 Excel Documents from the “AVIcodec program” I have on a web server. So you can download and view my codec’s if you want. This “AVIcodec” program prints out a list of everything you have on your system in an Excel document. There are 4 documents (Excel .csv). Please feel free do download and look at what I have on my system. If you see any conflicts or whatever let me know. Thanks again guys...here are the files. You will have to copy and paste the html link into your browser and hopefully be asked to download the files. Again...they are .csv Excel files and you need Microsoft Excel to view. I hope you have Excel on your computer...if not, let me know and I will convert them to some other format.
My Codecs as of Today June 29, 2004.

hitman47RegularDo you have KazaA on your computer?
If you do that also ads some spyware that I’ve noticed on some computers to be undetected by spyware removing programs and only can be rid of by removing it from the computer and wiping the harddrive afterward.
If you do try KazaA-Lite because of a few reasons:
No spyware
Codec pack non-damaging
doesn’t slow your computer down
go here for old versions of KazaA lite and just upgrade it to get a non-spyware version of KazaA and feel the speed of your computer increase and video speed and quality could as well.

Hey guys...before I do anything with my codecs, etc...I have a few questions I thought you might be able to answer.
1. How do I remove all my codecs and start fresh?
(besides Divx and Nimo, I do not know where I can remove the others completely)
2. Should I clean my registry and where is a good free program to do so?
3. When I get to loading codecs should I load them in a certain order?
4. What codecs do I specifically need to install and in what order?
5. I know codec packs are bad, so what codecs do I need and where can I get them? (url to websites maybe)
6. 3ivx, ffdshow, Xvid, etc etc etc.
P.S. Remember I have an ATI All-in-Wonder 9000 Pro card and the main reason I’m doing this is to encode and record video so that I can tell the difference between MPEG1 and MPEG2. Right now there is no substancial difference between the two types of video. They seem to be inversed or switched...wierd. That’s the whole reason I have to do this. Any advice or info would be most excellent!
Thanks a bunch and I look forward to your replies.
Cheers!

hitman47RegularOk, since I remember you saying you have XP Home
Go to your control panel.
Change it to the original view.
Go to System and click Device manager
Choose the Sound video controllers option
Here’s where you can see your codecs
I have these(Video):
DivX 5.1.1
iccvid.dll
Indeo 1.263 Video Driver
Indeo Video 5.10
ir32_32.dll
ir41_32.ax
iyuv_32.dll
Microsoft Windows Media Video 9 VCM
msh261.drv
msh263.drv
msrle32.dll
msvidc32.dll
msyuv.dll
tsbyuv.dll
and don’t have any problems with videos quality.
In the video controllers option you can check if the codec is perfoming correctly and remove it if neccessary.
(If you want to remove NIMO at all then go to add remove programs first then remove the codecs from this menu after)
Then try download.com and use the free trial of system mechanic and it should remove the other data from your registry and lets you get rid of junk and duplacate files.
