RMVB is a Real Media format container - Real Media Variable Bitrate. It’s what you put RealVideo 9/RealVideo 10 content in. Much like you put DivX content in an AVI container.
Yes, some would argue that RV9/RV10 IS better than DivX in terms of quality per file size. It’s certainly not much worse than DivX, that’s for sure.
There are two programs that you can use to create RV9/RV10 files, which will automatically be placed in a RMVB container when done. One is commercial and the other is freeware. They are:
Real Helix Producer Plus 9.0.1 - commercial
(http://www.realnetworks.com/products/producer/)
AutoRV9 - free
(http://www.dark-angel.does.it/)
I prefer AutoRV9 for its simplicity.

Real Alternative can be used to play RMVB files:
Also if you’ve got a modified Xbox, it can play RMVB. Install the latest version of XBMC or XBMP which support it.
use XVID ou 2 passes Divx, but trash realmedia softwares & codecs ASAP !
You will only gain a few percent in size with rmvb.
