I know this issue has been up before but I have tried:

Various versions of DivX and XVid codecs: None of these files play.

Ace Mega Pack (200MB worth of codecs): None of these files play.

bsplayer - None of these files play.

Core Media Player - None of these files play.

FourCC Changer - FourCC Description Code and FourCC Used Codec fields show garbage characters on ALL files. (All parts downloaded files passed the BitTornado hash check btw.)

GSpot - Can’t detect any codec information in any of these files.

MPlayer (on Gentoo Linux with all codecs in the Portage tree) - Can’t playback any of these files.

TMPGEnc - suggests these aren’t even AVI files.

Any ideas to play the above mentioned file would be greatly appreciated.

What file extension you got after decompressing the rar’s files?

Its not a rar file. The extention is *.avi

It’s something fishy if your download is not compressed.Or is fake or somebody plays stupid jokes to load data as an avi.HD shows come like x vid file with mp3 sound.I had this ugly experience with fake Da Vinci movie and not only was fake had even a password on it.My advice try to download it again from a different site.

Sounds pretty certain that although it may have an .avi extension, it’s not.

This isn’t un-common. It’s the chance you take when you try to download illegal rips. Try another file or source.

Also, avi files have to be 100% complete for them to work properly, unlike mpg’s which will play when not complete. It’s to do with the indexing or something. Maybe the file you have downloaded isn’t complete.

I’ve come upon this problem myself. Only thing that seems to play it is video lan (VLC). And even then its still choppy on occassion. Its pretty annoying.

I too am having the same problem. With many of the hdtv.xvid-lol files nothing works and I’ve downloaded every suggestion so far. I don’t have a problem with other downloads, and once in while xvid-lol works. The files show as a AVI, but nothing plays them and nothing recognizes it. I have GSOT, video inspector, Mpui player, VLC player, DVIX 5 player, but nothing.
I’d think many would be having this same problem? Its not the computer, i have 3 and its the same on all. help.. thanks

Try installing the K-Lite codec pack. You should be able to play them in most video players then.

same prob with xVid.LOL - can’t render etc. tried K-Lite an no luck either. I’ve d/l’d other torrents with this extension (Sopranos eps) and they’re fine.

Dont install fuck!
In the end you’ll have enough codecs to induce a conflict then crash ur computer.
Dont just install codecs and hope for the best, use GSpot to ascertain which codecs u actually need.

GSPOT is unable to detect the needed codec ...
it’s probably the nero codec that is needed ...

VLC plays the files, but with some unpleasant latencie.
