As of last night I didn’t know what a codec was, but after copious amounts of research I’ve learned I need one. I need to import video files that were created on a Mac into Adobe Premiere on my PC. The files, which work fine on an updated Mac, don’t play at all on Windows Media Player, and play audio only on Quicktime. When I try to import into Premiere it says I need a codec.
I think the one I need is DVHP but I’ve looked all over and can’t figure out how to get it.
I have a working knowledge of software but confess this is all very much over my head. Can someone help me?
A bit of googling suggests this is the DVCPRO HD codec. It seems QuickTime and Mac-only (apparently bundled with Final Cut Pro). There does not appear to be a version of the codec for QuickTime for Windows.
You can try ffdshow-tryouts and/or VLC Media Player to see if they’ve implemented it yet.
Thanks. Actually that helps a ton. I found a couple of things that look promising.
Have you found anything that will work in windows? Aggrivating codec from Apple to say the least. Is this supposed to make us run out and get a mac so we can be incompatible with the rest of the world?
dvhp fourcc should work with most DV codecs.
did ffdshow-tryouts + media player classic work for you?
latest win32 mplayer build:
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mplayer-win32/MPlayer-rtm-svn-28311.7z?modtime=1231927747&big_mirror=0
can handle it on windows.
?is there a way to convert dvhp to avi or .mov in xp?

yeah I need this too!
Me too!! Where’s everyone gone? :-o
i was having a similar issue and came across a decoder for dvcpro-hd files.
http://www.dvfilm.com/raylight/decoder/index.htm
i downloaded the demo and it turned the trick, but in order to remove the superimposed “dvfilm” all over the image you have to pay for the software.
don’t yet know if there’s a freeware version of the product in cyberspace
