Cannot view good image at a mp4 file

Here’s the deal. I downloaded an mp4 file and none of my media players seems to play it (even not quicktime)
Then I found out about VLC and it played, BUT the image wasn’t very nice.
(I know it’s not the file’s fault because I can play it with Windows Media Player CLASSIC and the image is perfect but I get no sound from WMP Classic).

Please help I’m desperate.

It’s ok I download Nero Recode 2 and played it with showtime with no problems. Thanks anyway.
