Folks, please share your opinions and pros/contras about best codec pack for Vista (Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008).

Does it make it difference to chose codec packs like “Vista Codec Package” and “Windows 7 Codecs”, or the traditional ones like K-Lite Codec Pack is as fine or even better?

Yes, the codec pack does matter.

In the past, I used codec packs, and have since stopped using them, due to problems with said packs.

They would cause issues with some games, or cause video errors with bugged codecs.

I personally am still partial to K-Lite Codec pack. I think it’s decent.

Now, I use a player that uses built in codecs, and install what I need only.

My player of choice is KM Player. It’s great and is easily customizable. If you want it to use internal or external, it will do as you set it to do.
