I have some AVI files encoded at 384 kbps and 960x528 that won’t play on my DivX DVD player. I’m guessing that this is because they are encoded using a more up to date DivX codec than has been installed on the DVD player.

Rather than going through the pain of trying to update the firmware on my DVD player I want to reencode the AVI files to a format the player will play. I have some other AVI files encoded at 128 kbps and 624x352 which play fine on the DVD player (Sony DAV-DZ720), can anyone recommend a software tool that I can use to convert the AVI files from 384 kbps to 128kbps?

Just out of interest, can anyone tell me how to work out which codecs have been used to encode each file?
