Okay guys! I really need help! So I’m making an AMV on WMM and I have the same problem as everyone here but its extended! I cant import any AVI files that a ripped off of a CD! I went to
Tools and did the check box thingy BUT it only has one box, that is RealMedia Splitter. Now I tried to download more codecs, XviD and DivX but it wont let me install them! It says its not a valid Win32 application! How can I get that installed? And I tried going to Free-Codecs.com and downloading the K-Lite Codec Pack but my browser(Mozilla Firefox) would not let me! ARG! PLEASE HELP! reply

Yeah, you’re all saying you have a problem, OBVIOUSLY no one knows the answer, so stop posting new problems.

Although, I do have a problem with the whole codec-Movie Maker situation. So maybe, someone smart will actually give us all an answer! reply

Solution to Windows Movie Maker and AVI compatibility.

I was having similar problems then I searched on internet and found this solution:

1) Install ffdshow video decoder (can find on free-codecs.com)
2) Once installed, open Movie maker
3) Go to Tools/Options/Compatibility
4) Check ffdshow video codec
5) Import videos

It should work as it did for me ;) reply

Okay, I am having the same problems. I downloaded a video and it ended up as .MKV, and it wouldn’t play on anything, i used a converter to make it into a .AVI file but I still can’t import it into movie maker, it plays in media player.
When I try to import it, it says this:

blahblahblah.avi could not be imported. The required codec was not downloaded automatically because the Download codecs automatically check box is not selected in the Options dialog box.

Where is the options dialog box? Does it mean when I converted it? reply

Ah...never mind that...I found what it meant now...but it STILL won’t work, now it says this:

Blahblahblah.avi could not be imported. An interface has too many methods to fire events from

...and I’m like: WHAT!? reply

fiuuuu!! what a day!

After doing what I wrote in my last reply, I then opened Windows Movie Maker clicked on TOOLS > OPTIONS>COMPATIBILITY> CHECK ALL BOXES INCLUDING FDDSHOW VIDEO DECODER.

Now both my Windows media player & movie maker work. Now more “adquiring codecs” warnings :-)

Hope I helped,

guys, i need help!
my wondows movie maker, is giving me a hard time.
i converted my .mov file into an .avi supported by divx
when i tried to open the .avi in movie maker it said: ".avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again."
i tried evrything that is said on this forum:
- i looked for evry possible codec and downloaded it
- i used gspot to see what codec i needed: xvid, which is already installed on my pc
- and i went to tools-options-compatibiltiy and checked all boxes.
i really dont know what else i can do. and i tried using other movie editors, but i cant find any that are as simple as the windows movie maker, and that do what i want them to do.
please, help. reply
