hello bigfoot i have tried but its only audio converter i cant able to convert amv shall u help me

I have a problem and I’m out of ideas. I’ve got a digital TV decoder with an internal DVR (a Humax PVR9200), it’s got a USB port so I can get the video files on my PC, but I can’t play them back. I know I need a new codec, but I can’t find any that work, any ideas?

All I know is the DVR encodes video in 'Mpeg2 Digital', seemingly with STING hardware. So far none of the codecs I’ve found online decode it. 'Stinky’s' Mpeg2 decoder doesn’t work, neither does 'Nvidia Pure Video', the best I’ve had is an Elecard that plays back but I get a lot of lines on the motion, looks like an interlacing problem or something. Like I said, I’m out of ideas and I’d appreciate any help anyone can give.

I am having the same problem Becca had. I went into Tools-Options and checked Download Codecs Automatically but it still gives me an error message, this time:

[File] cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

So I went to Free-Codecs.com like BigFoot said to but I am not sure which codec to download. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Yep. Get the GSpot Codec Information Appliance and use it to open the relevant files. That’ll tell you what codec you need, and then you can use the search function on free-codecs.com to find and download it.

Okey doke here is the thing with AMV convertion - there are only a few pieces of equipment which require .amv format. At present, there is no freeware or shareware software solution for conversion of amv files - that is converting to or from the .amv extension. Those pieces of hardware which require .amv format are sold along with software which automatically converts files as necessary. For equipment which does not require .amv specifically, there is no benefit to using this extension, so use something else until software becomes available.

The main ones out there (that generally come when you purchase ur MP4 player) are the “MP3 Player Utilities 3.68” or the MP3 Player Utilities 3.57”.

They can be downloaded from a number of sites:

To name a few.
Download it, make sure you have the required DirectX and Windows Media Player, install it, then convert your .avi files to .amv files.

Hi, Ive been trying all sorts of video codecs but it doesnt seem to solve my problem. When i try to play videos, i always get some sort of color bands running across the screen. its different for every video but most of the time there is a thick green band, or the images are doubled and shifted to the right or left. does anyone have an idea what i can do to fix this?

Err sounds very like you downloaded those clips, in which case the bands you’re talking about are signiature marks from computers in an animation studio or similar; that is, each pattern describes which computer has worked on which bit. You can’t get rid of them, they’re part of the video and that’s just one of the drawbacks of illegally downloading stuff. Not a codec issue at all, I’m pretty sure.
