Mighty G Guest | I have a problem, in that I created an .avi and an .mpg with an ATI application on a windows 98 computer. The resulting video will not play on an xp system or anything else.
I have downloaded XP codec pack from free-codecs.com and I still have the same problem. Can anyone help me solve this problem?
Thanks | |

Hi all,
I’ve found an AMV convertor here: http://www.mediaplayers.co.nz/downloads.htm.
Look for the “AMV Convertor Tool” down the bottom of that page.
Download while it’s still available.
It comes with a convertor, player and firmware updating tool as well.
It’s very fast to convert as well, so don’t worry too much about that.
Hope this helps you all.
Cheers,
Kevin

There’s no obvious reason that you wouldn’t be able to see the videos. If you’re still having problems, use the GSpot Codec Information Application ( http://headbands.com/gspot/) to see what codec you need, and then search for it on and download from http://www.free-codecs.com/. --- All the best, — bigFootLast edited 16 Feb 2006 09:17 am by bigFoot

sairam Guest | I am not able to open most of my avi file i downloaded from website. I am getting following error message from media player.
C00D1199: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. You might encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:
The file type is not supported by the Player. For a list of file types (formats) that are supported by Windows Media Player, see Supported file types.
The file type is supported by the Player, but the file was compressed by using a codec that is not supported by the Player.
The file type is supported, but you are trying to play it in a way that is not supported by the Player. For example, you might have tried to drag a DVD file with a .vob extension from a DVD to the Windows Media Player icon. Or you might have tried to open a .vob file by clicking Open on the File menu.
You are trying to play one part of a multipart file. Use a newsreader or other program to combine the files, and then try again.
Error ID = 0xC00D1199, Condition ID = 0x00000000

Go here. Make sure you have DirectX 9.0 and Windows Media Player 9 or 10.
Checking your DirectX version
1. Go to the start menu
2. Select “Run”
3. Type dxdiag
in the text box and select “OK”.
4. If a dialogue appears asking you whether to check information about WHQL, select “Yes”.
5. Look at the version number on the “System” tab of the dxdiag window.
Checking you Windows Media Player version
1. Open Windows Media Player, through the Start menu or otherwise.
2. Go to the “Help” dropdown menu at the top.
3. Select “About Windows Media Player”
4. Look at “Version:". The first digit of the long number is your version number. --- All the best, — bigFoot

Becca Guest | I have the biggest problem. I am trying to make an amv. I got a bunch of episode’s that I purchased online and when I try to import them into Windows Movie Maker it says: The required codec was not downloaded automatically because the Download codecs automatically check box is not selected in the Options dialog box.
I have checked everywhere for a Options dialog box or another codec’s downloader but I am still stuck! Can you help?
~Thank you~ | |

First things first, Becca. I doubt you have the biggest problem. In fact, I would say that there are people who have much bigger problems than yours. So you illegaly downloaded a few episodes of a TV show, tried to change their format to AMV for some unknown reason, and put them in Windows Movie Maker. You clearly have a big problem in that you have no idea how to go about using a computer properly, but that’s OK! We’re here to help you and to make you feel better about yourself. Next time, don’t pretend you’re dying of starvation or terminally ill; or indeed that your family life is falling apart around you and your best friend just passed away. You do not have the biggest problem, and if you do, you have not just mentioned it.
As you would know had you just READ A FEW PAST POSTS before you bothered posting yourself (although I suppose maybe writing out that post took your mind off the biggest problem, you can find the codec at http://www.free-codecs.com/. Furthermore, it isn’t particularly hard to find “Options” in any Windows software - its in the same place in almost every piece of software you get from Microsoft: Tools — Options. What a shame even the most basic software solutions escape you.
So 'yes' is the answer - I can help. But next time, do me a favour. Read past posts, and if and only if your question hasn’t already been asked, ask nicely. --- All the best, — bigFoot

The easiest way is using FTP server software on your own machine (such as Golden FTP server, although there are free alternatives.) Once you have set this up, people whom you provide with a username will be able to log on to ftp://YOURIPADDRESS/ and access the files you have designated.
There are various free fileservers to which you can upload, but many of these also have size limitations similar to those of an email... --- All the best, — bigFoot
