Hi, I’ve been pulling my hair out looking for a good MPEG-1/MPEG-2 codec/filter to play simple mpg files. Whatever I am playing them with now combs like crazy on the monitor or is very dark as it keeps turning the brightness down in my overlay control.

I got a movie and i don’t know what codec i should use !!! I was trying to open in with the old media player from my computer but i don’t remember how (i thinks it was run...and something) I though that maybe i open it with the old one it will let me downalod the codec !!!
Speaking of players, I use RealPlayer, and I have found it plays most everything I want it to. You can download a free version at:
Note the free player icon is found in upper right corner. It advertises that it plays all the major media types. To get it to play all the media types you have to click on tools, then preferences, then content and media types. Check the ones you want it to play. I checked all of them.
ive downloaded a copy of a new movie but it wont play as win media player asks for a codec, and gives 2 options 'close' or 'web help' when i try the web help im taken to msn codecs but theres so many types ive got all the common ones, how do i find out which codec i require, the file has an AVI ext. but i dont think yis an avi cos other AVI files play.
the best codec pac is free from www.free-codecs.com...on the top left of the page is ffdshow... these codecs work with every thing..if you have probs with power dvd the best place is to goto http://www.winavi.com/codec.htm..and get the codecs that you need :)
the best site for codec downloading is www.free-codecs.com. I believe they also have several useful utilities to download, which may or may not include the G-Spot Codec Information Appliance. This is what you need to tell you what codec a video or audio file is encoded with. If its not up there, their URL is www.headbands.com/gspot/
That should pretty much sort out any problems. Anything else, just post.
