Hey,

Does anyone know if this is possible. I was wondering if its possible to burn a writable dvd disk in a regular cd burner. I don’t mean can i burn a dvd movie to it, or in dvd format. Just can i write regular data to a dvd disk, from a regular cd burner. And if so can i burn more data then a regular 800 meg disk would contain. Using perhaps overburning, or something similar.

Yes it is possible.First extract the file from your dvd to pc find the mpeg file and convert it to vcd or svcd format. If is too big use the splitter from your converter and set it for 700 MB size so you are going to have a few cd’s to watch your dvd on your standalone dvd player.Better is you use just Power DVD or WinDVD to play the dvd on your pc.If you talk about backing up data on a dvd using a cd burner I’m sorry but no can do.The laser diode on a dvd burner has two phase one for dvd one for cd.The cd burner has only one:cd’s.

NO.
You want to put a blank dvd-R into a CD-r drive and burn data onto it. DVD uses a different format and the dvd lens is totaly different. DVD also has 2 layers which any normal cd-r drive can’t read. Sorry bro,
Ever try to put a dvd movie into a normal cd drive? it doesn’t work because the cd lens can’t focus on the dvd layers. Get yourself a dvd-R drive.

ok thanks, i was just wondering cuz i got a box of dvd-r disks for my birthday, was sposed to get a dvd burner to go with them. But every store we went to wouldnt sell me one, they say cuz my system doesnt meet minimum requirements to use a dvd burner. and my wife had already opened the box of dvd-r disks, so we cant take em back. was just wondering if i could use em in my cd-w but i guess ill just have to toss em.

Good gawd! don’t toss them! There’s ppl out there who are dying to get dvd-r’s for cheap and can’t get them. Find someone who wants them and give them away or at least sell them.

I am interesting in this topic. Cuz I have a Combo-Driver(it can both read any dvds and burn CD-R/RW). I have the same wondering that whether I can use my Combo burn some files into a dvd and use the Combo read the files from the dvd. And I dont want to buy any new hardware. Software is wanted.

If the question is to put a dvd on a cd without having a a dvd burner the answer is a big YES.Burning a dvdr inside a cd burner No can do.Having a dvd rom is enough to read the dvd and transfer the video ts on computer.Installing a virtual drive can do the same thing. So far the video ts is transfered on computer extract the mpeg2 from vob and convert it to any cd format like vcd or svcd.Software need it: any video converter, Daemon Tools and a few cd’s because the video ts is a big file and after converting the vob have to be cut in pieces to fit a 700 MB cd.Overburning with Nero is ok but no more than 5 minutes or about 50 MB.DVD Shrink work only with dvd’s to fit a DVD5 from a bigger file or just to backup the dvd.Burning a dvd to work on a cd rom is not possible but is possible to play it on a dvd rom drive. The only way to put a dvd to be read by a cd rom is using Roxio Drag to disc.Makes a dvdr to work as a floppy.Formatted and drag to disc any files you like and burnt with a dvd burner and is going to work in any cd rom drive. The question is very well connected to a budget problem because not everybody can afford new hardware but the price of a dvd burner is now very low compared with a few years ago.
