Can't get video file to play

Hi,

I downloaded a couple of files (tv show) using bittorrent. No matter what I do, I can’t get it to play.

In the title of the file is HDTV-XVid. I downloaded the XVID codec and it didn’t work. I opened the file in GSpot, and it says that it’s not a valid AVI file, even though the extension is .AVI.

I’ve done about everything I can think of. Can anyone offer any suggestions on how I can get this to work? It took forever to download it through bittorrent, and I would hate to think that I wasted my time.
