how do you get vlc to display subtitles?

HI all
I need help i finally found player to play Smallville season 4 files - VLC (Video LAN) player but i can’t display the subtitles in it.
Which player should i use ?

Do you still use vlc? So double click on the vlc player, choose the movie, e then choose the legend. After you selected the legend, click on “advanced” just above the blank of the legend, then change the encoding of it. I use the JAVA encoding, you need to check the “active legend file”.
