shawndpaul Guest | I have the answer on how to work with your JVC .mod files. After much frustration, I have found a plan that works.
1. Download Prism Video Converter (Free). This program will permit you to simply drop all your .mod files in at one time. It will convert it to many different types of video files. I personally used .avi

2. Once you completed this, set your Prism settings to this.
3. Output Format: .avi
4. Click on Encoder Options
5. Video compressor: DivX 5.2.1 Codec (if you don’t have this on your computer it will not populate the pick list. Google for it and download it on your computer. Reopen Prism and it will find it.)
6. Sound Compressor: PCM Uncompressed
7. Sound Format: 44100 Hz, 16 bits, Stereo
8. Once your files are in the converter and you made your settings. Click on Convert.
9. I place over 120 files in to this converter, went to work and they where all converted properly.
10. I use Adobe Premiere Elements 4 to work with my videos, it is now working perfectly.

pc9head Guest | Use the free VirtualDubMod,when importing the .mod file change the 'file types' dialog box to 'all files' and the program will parse the video and audio streams and produce perfect editable video which will output as an avi file.Kudos to Avery Lee - his program is magic!

Jonny Quest Guest | Your best bet is to use a free program (MAC)called ffmpegx to convert the .mod file to a .mov file. It supports other formats as well. Otherwise the .mod file is pretty useless.

Entree Rep: 0Joined: 13 May 2008 Posts: 2 OFFLINE | HI GUYS, this is what I did, seems to work well for cyberlink etc. you can actually play and hear them without the stress
1: Download the K-Lite codec package and install.
2: Download Gom player, make it your default media player.
3: Copy whatever files you want from your camerea onto pc.
5: I make a separate folder and put all my files in that.
4: Rename file ext to .mpg, it will default to Gom.
5: Make sure if you have a web cam to DISABLE it. You can find that in control panel,system,device,imaging.right click and disable. you can enable when you finished.
6: If you use cyberlink, just click on import, get the files and away you go. if your using movie maker etc, import the file and then click “SAVE AS” you will then be able to view both picture and sound.
NOTE:::If you havent invested in a firewire cable I suggest you purchase one instead of using a usb cable they supply you with. Programmes can crash otherwise.

converts fine, plays fine and best of all saves your sanity.

Ashriel Guest | When ever I try renaming the file I don’t get the audio in premiere (though i can here it fine in wmp) and since i don’t own the camera i cant tell the software that comes with it to convert it to some thing else
is there a way to get around these problems(I don’t care if it’s mpg as long as I get the sound in premiere)?

giljeek Guest | Yes, there are possibly a number of ways to overcome the problem, but both Adobe and JVC should be ashamed. You pay top money for both video recorder and software, and they do not work together, shame! Fidling with changing extentions reminds me of working on computers in the 60’s when we had to change source code. Bat files give me fond memories of Microsoft DOS. Adobe is now charging K’s for programs which go back to stone age in computer terms. If Microsoft has no problems playing a .mod file, why can’t Adobe recognice it. Neither can it recognice .vob. Premiere Pro is a disgrace!

Watson Guest | You can not change the extension for editing! If you do so the sound does not mesh with the video. It is very frustrating, Premiere Elements will import mod files but CS3 does not.
