A SOLUTION
FINALLY
This thread has been around for way too many years now, but until now, no-one has worked out a way to:
A) Copy the files to the computer and automatically rename them so they stay in the correct order
Convert the files so they can be viewed easily
C) Convert the files so they are useable in ANY video editor
Well now all that has changed... the catch - all this convenience comes at a price... of $5.
I just bought the JVC Camcorder Copier for $5 and it works perfectly, saves me so much time.
And it’s worth it, cos apparently if it doesnt work for you, they give you free tech support and can also refund your payment.
Give it a try, its amazing:

John56 Guest | Hi, if you own an Everio JVC GMZ-30/32E, then you’ve probably noticed that it doesn’t have an external mic port, i was wondering if any one had any experience with tie clip mics or rifle mics that can be connected to digital voice recorders in order to record better sound for short films and doucmentaries. If anyone has any suggestions about manufacturers and prices for this kind of equipment i would appreciate it. I thought that i could record the sound seperately and sync it in Adobe later. Is this a good idea???

I’ve always thought (but i could be wrong) that digital voice recorders weren’t terribly huge quality, and it may be difficult to sync up the video and the audio (unless you have a hollywood-style clapper).
If you do get a digital voice recorder, get one that records at 48000 Hz, that’s a pretty good quality, and it should work excellently.

Wannabe Rep: 0 Joined: 05 Mar 2008 Posts: 11 OFFLINE | Ramaroa, this problem is probably caused by Windows Media Player not having the correct codecs installed. Is the computer you’re using to play the video connected to the internet? If so, WMP should automatically download the right codecs.
If that doesn’t happen, the easiest way to solve it (sorry about repeating myself) is at http://www.camcordercopier.com/. They sell a program for just the price of a Starbucks cup of coffee that can fix your problem (provided you have a JVC camera).
If your camera is panasonic, you could always try e-mailing the owner of the site, cos presumably he knows something about it.

niftydog Guest | No, fuck that mikeyb, your “I’m-just-a-happy-customer” ploy is fucking transparent, dude. Hope you’re mother’s proud of you.
Ramaroa, there’s almost certainly a TOTALLY FREE and easy solution to your problem. Take a look back in this thread, there’s literally dozens of FREE solutions here, one of which is bound to work for you - it might just take a little digging and experimenting.
If all you want to do is play the files, I suggest you download the FREE software “Media Player Classic." If you’re having audio troubles, download the FREE codec AC3Filter. If you’re getting no results at all, update Windows Media Player, or use the FREE alternative “Media Player Classic."

I contacted him to thank him for his work, he’s very nice. Besides that, I don’t know how else I can prove it to you... oh well to be honest I don’t care that much what you think...

niftydog Guest | Uh huh. So apparently, “mikeyb” ISN’T Michael Berman, who clearly states in a post on this forum that he wrote the software, and has posted here before using the same email address as listed at the URL that mikeyb is promoting! Wow... what an amazing coincidence!!!

If the guy who wrote the software I bought is called michael then that’s fine, but if someone came in here called quickcanine i wouldn’t automatically assume it was you.

I’m using a Sony DCR SR-190 and came here with the same common issue - importing MPG2’s into Premiere Pro and not having the Audio element show up. I’ve have found a quick and dirty solution that some people may find useful.
PROBLEM: When importing the MPG file as recorded, there is only video, not audio.
STEP 1: Duplicate the MPG file, rename it *.AVI
STEP 2: Import both *.MPG and *.AVI
STEP 3: Notice that the MPG gives correct video proportions, but no audio. The AVI has distorted video, but correct audio.
STEP 4: UNLINK the audio from the AVI.
STEP 5: Drop the MPG video over the AVI video channel.
STEP 6: Re-link the MPG video with the AVI audio.
I am continuing to tackle the AC3 plugin route for a cleaner solution, will report here if any success.
Thanks again niftydog!
