Michael... Guest | YAAAAYYYY!!!!
Gawie, guess what?!?!
Problem solved!!! Just do this:
Browse to C:\Batch Files
Right click on “Copy from Camera.bat”
Click “Edit” on the drop down menu
Notepad should open. Near the beginning you should be able to see:
REM — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — \
REM \
set CopySpeed=275
set OrigCameraDrive=G
set CopyFolder=%Userprofile%\My Documents\My Videos
REM /
REM — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — /
See the “set OrigCameraDrive=G” line?
Change the G at the end to an E. Make sure it is a capital.
This should fix it. I’m pretty sure the reason was something to do with the SD card slot in the camera.
If it doesn’t help, post again and I’ll keep thinking...

popeye Guest | i am too novice for all this stuff...but i have a problem which i think u guyz could help with...my cousin sent me Cd’s with movie clips taken from Jvc Everio...but my CDrom just wouldnt read the data on the disks..i desperately need the movie clips ...as the orignal was deleted from the camcorder..Plzzzzzzzzz help ...mail me at llofernandes@yahoo.com

Michael... Guest | That sounds like an odd problem, Popeye.
So youe saying that you put the CDinto our computer and the computer just ignores it completely... sometimes that happens to me, but it usually fixes itself after I ke the CD out and put it back in again... hmmm...
If you look at the bottom of the CD you should be able to see two different colours, and usually the darker one is closest to the middle of the CD.
It you can see these, then it means that there is data on the CD, but it simply cannot be read by your computer. If you can’t see these colours, then it means that your cousin hasn’t burned disc properly, and the data is lost forever.
Also, check that it is a CD and not a DVD, and if it is a DVD check if your computer can read DVDs. If you computer is over 3 years old it may not read DVDs.
If it is a CD, check that your computercan read CD-Rs. Over 5 year-old computers may not read them.
I hope one of these has helped you solve your problem.

popeye Guest | thanx for considering my question michael....as u say the disk when observed has two diff parts which means there is data onto it....also my computer plays DVD’s as well....i tried using mediaplayer 9 series..but no use...when discussed my cousin says it works well with his laptop....pls..help as the clips are of a function which cannot be repeated.....

Michael... Guest | I’ve wondered about that myself, rallysmurf, but I have never tried.
I think if you find a program to convert the video into .MP2 format, then rename the file so it ends in .MOD rather than MP2, it may work.
Of course, it may not. It all depends on which program you use. I’dimaging somew make it work ad others may not.
Hope this herlps

Gawie Guest | Michael,
We are slowly getting somewhere but you would not believe it, there are still some problems.
Let’s start at the beginning and I will try to explain it in the best possible way:
I have changed every thing as instructed by you, but then there were still no progress and the file was still empty.
After thinking very hard and studying the inside of both the files that were created by you: “CameraCopyWorking.bat” (4K and “Copy from Camera.bat” (2K ,
I suddenly realize that somewhere in your program it state that the program must only used SD_Video\PRG001.
On my camera’s directory there were only the following programs:
SD_Video\PRG003
SD_Video\PRG004
SD_Video\PRG005
I remember deleting PRG001 and PRG002 on the camera to make space available for my next projects that I want to video taped.
I do not know why the camera then starts at PRG003 and it seems that after 99 video files the camera automatically starts a new PRG004 and later PRG005.
I also do not know if there is a setting on the camera that prevents this, or start over with PRG001 after deleting the files.
As a last resort I renamed PRG003 to PRG001 on the computer’s directory were the camera was listed under E:\Removable Disk, and all of a sudden it worked, your program starts to download the files from the camera to the computer.
The camera did not like this changing or renaming of the files, because after the download there appeared a warning on the camera that said there was something wrong or something like tampering with camera’s directory and that it must be fixed, then there was some kind of option to fix it.
My next problem seems to be, now I have to buy a new program that can edit the new mp2 files that was created (download) by your program. I have tried to use the Cyberlink program that came with the JVC camera but it can not read the new format.
Thanks again
Greetings

Peter Carson Guest | Well, hasn’t this been a long and tortuous thread! I know because I just trawled my way through it having just bought a JVC30GHDD Camcorder and got the usual “it does everything, and it’s easy to use” at the shop. Fact is, not a bad camera but does use .mod extension for its mp2 file generation, and that’s such a hassle. Michael’s excellent software does the trick but it will not work for everyone (through no fault of Michael’s), or you can manually rename the files and ditch the “housekeeping” MOI files and everything else, or you can use Pinnacle 10, or you can purchase a little converter for MOD to MP2; all of these solutions work and of course you need the filter for Dolby sound as per the thread earlier. The point is not whether we, as consumers, can make this stuff work, it’s whether we should have to and I don’t think we should. JVC has hitched its wagon to a painfully inadequate product and said in the instructions that you can’t use anything but its bundled software. I can make it work, but I’m not going to. JVC should have hired someone to write decent software so you could plug this sucker in and push one button, rather than forcing its sweetheart packaging deal on its consumers. My JVC HDD camera is going back to the store this morning for a refund, and I’ll wait until someone does something sensible. It’s not the .mod extension that offends me, it’s the “third line forcing” that makes my blood boil and we shouldn’t stand for it.

Michael... Guest | Righty, I now know exactly what the problem is Gawie (it all makes sense now). The program is automatically looking for a PRG001. If it doesn’t find one, it will automatically assume that there are no PRG numbers after it, so it is stopping there. I just wrote a fix and put it online.
It is located at http://www.geocities.com/mgberman2000/Batch.html
It is called Update2.
Just unzip the file and copy it to the C:\Batch Files directroy.
It has not been tested, and may stuff up the whole thing, but hopefully it won’t. Tell me if it works!

Michael... Guest | By the way, Peter, I’m on your side! If I can write a program like this then surely JVC can hire somebody to help them. They might lose the deal from Cyberlink, but they’d win back all the pissed off customers like you!
But what’s “third line forcing”???

Gawie Guest | Michael,
Still no progress.
Your program still only download PRG001, although I see a difference when I start the download, in the pass to download the 99 files in PRG001, on the screen was a note that state that it will take 12 min. to download and now, after the upgrade it indicate more to download, because now it will state that it will take 27 min. to download. But still only the 99 files in PRG001 are there.
If I can make a suggestion and if it is possible to write in your program:
Were the first instructions start when opening the program, can you ad another option so that we can type the specific folder (for example PRG002) that must be downloaded and then the instructions to name the file to be created. It will give us more folder options when downloading it to the computer.
I have also tried to rename the folders on the camera like this:
SD_Video\PRG003 to PRG001
SD_Video\PRG004 to PRG002
SD_Video\PRG005 to PRG003
But only PRG001 were downloaded
Thanks again

Tony Wood Guest | Hi Guys
Back again from a month’s holiday, with 3.5 hours of video in 446 files.
So I firstly went through a lot of postings on this forum, and decided to try renaming the extensions of the first 5 files to ".mpg” and then playing them in Windows Media. Great. Both video and sound and no problems there.
So then I downloaded the extension converter (".mod to .mpg” to do the other 441 files, and again worked a treat.
I got Windows Media Viewer to put the files into its library and then created a playlist of all the files so that I can now quickly review all 446 clips quite easily without having to use the editing software to import and put them on the timeline and render them.
Quite honestly, at least 70% of what I took is really crap - camera shake, out of focus, wild panning and zooming etc - but at least I can very conveniently make notes of which clips to finally include, and which few seconds are OK, and it’s much easier in Windows Media than doing it in the editing software.
My only problem now is that I have created an excel spreadsheet to catalogue the clips (with columns for people, places, events etc) so I know where to go when I edit but because the brains at JVC decided to use hexadecimal numbering It’s a real pain populating the “File Number” column in my spreadsheet.
So does anyone know of a function to use in Excel which will fill a column with incremental hexadecimal numbers?
Oh, and Michael, I’ve been following your posts with great interest.
I’ve gone so far down my current path that I’ll continue my way, but will certainly use your software for future downloads.
And finally, my video entry (setting a video to a Beatles song) won first prize in a contest!!
It’s on www.videoinasnap.com.
Only took me about 20 hours to do the 2.5min clip.
And finally finally, Australia for the World Cup.

Michael again... Guest | I’ve changed it slightly, and I think I may have worked out the problem, but I don’t know.
It’s still at the same place as it was before...
Good idea Gawie, I’ll write something for that some time, but I don’t know when, as I’m going on a 3 week holiday on Sunday. I may have it done before then...

I have all the problems you are having with one additional...no sound on my computer at all. Something happened while using the included cyberlink software, heard a piercing feedback sound, and all sound was lost. Tried everything to no avail & finally did a system restore which brought back the sound. But I kept losing the sound while editing or producing & had to keep doing system restore. NOW the system restore no longer works!! I’ve contacted JVC support who did not help & I’ve emailed Cyberlink who so far have not helped. I’ve contacted DELL who could not solve but suggested reformatting my hard drive!! I can’t take much more... Does anyone have any ideas?

tango_sat Guest | Good News!! (at least over here...)
Have an Everio gz-mg50ek
& use Pinnacle Studio to edit my videos...
To drag and drop video files (.mod) from the camera USING PowerDirector i had PROBLEMS with sound..
BUT resolved it after installing more codecs...
I recommend: XP Codec Pack 1.3.4
from http://www.xpcodecpack.com/
NOW I follow these steps to edit my videos:
- use Poer Director to open .mod files from camera
- create one long video
- save it as avi
- open it with Pinnacle Studio (mine is Version 8)
voila!!
good luck to you all!!! It was just a question of having teh rights codecs!!!
