Cannot play Xvid file, am seriously stuck.

Hi people.
I have a tricky problem which I am hoping to get some help with. I have downloaded an Xvid movie which works fine on my girlfriends computer. However, I cannot get it to work on mine. I have a brand new travelMate 8100, so XP is pretty clean. I tried downloading only the Xvid codec at http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/, didnt work. Then I downloaded the k-lite codecs at http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm, still doesnt work. I have dowloaded gspot to see if I have the correct codecses. According to gspot I do, actually I have several compatible codecses. If I try to run the movie using WMP10 I get the followin message; “Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." If I try using media player classic I get; “cannot render the file”? I have tried ALOT of codeces after this. Nothing works so I dont think it is a codecs problem. Just in case, I have installed the newest bios, video, chipset and audio driver. I would really appreciate some YODA help on this issue as I am seriously STUCK!!!

Try to download and install VLC and BSplayer work very well with Xvid.Also be sure you have the DivX pack install and as you said Xvid pack is already install.Use free codec site.

When you fed the file into gspot did it say anything in the stat box? If so when you click it does it give further information?
Has the file been modified in any way when transferred between your gf’s computer and yours? If not try a fresh copy from hers.
Finally as suggested above try alternate players such as vlc, mpc, or tcmp (though you tried mpc - the error message baffles me since the file was playable on your gf’s computer. I can only think of a mangled header as a possible error - but then gspot should have said something...)
Another thing to try is VirtualDub, which will attempt to process the whole file to salvage readable frames IF it can read the file headers.

Hi again.
After downloading the movie again it actually worked which I find strange since I was given no error messages when downloading it the first time. Also, gspot rendered the first file I downloaded.

Anyway, I am super happy. I really hate when I cant figure something out.
