Yesideez Guest | Visit www.3ivx.com and download the relevant codec from there.
I just spent ages trying to find this myself and finally found it. There’s different versions there for Windows, Mac (OS9 & OSX), Amiga and Linux.

In QuickTime files (extension .mov), .mp4 files, and .3gp files, mp4v is the fourcc for MPEG-4 (part 2). It’s generally referred to as Apple MPEG-4, but I’m not certain about the designation. Here’s why: If you use 3ivx as your compressor in QuickTime Pro, the encoded file also has fourcc mp4v (albeit at a higher quality than if you use Apple’s MPEG-4 codec). I guess it’s just MPEG-4 part 2, and anyone can implement it.
In theory xvid can decode AVI files with fourcc MP4V (it’s in the decoder options box - you have to check it to enable that), but I’ve never encountered any.
fourcc.org has this entry for MP4V:
Media Excel MPEG-4 Video. LEAD’s MCMP codec also supports this format.
I’m guessing Dave Wilson (the owner of fourcc.org) is talking about the fourcc in an AVI.
I can’t test whether 3ivx will decode mp4v in AVI (it can decode mp4v in .mov .mp4 .3gp, even without quicktime), because I don’t have any mp4v avi samples to test with - however the posters above say it works, so I’ll take their word for it.
Bottom line: get QuickTime or 3ivx for mp4v in .mp4 .mov or .3gp.
get 3ivx or xvid for mp4v in avi (and let us know if it works).
