Uninstalling Codecs and Green Screen

I have the dreaded Green Screen problem with Windows XP. It appears I need to uninstall all codecs and install ffdshow and 3ivx codecs AFTER I uninstall all vidoe codecs. Gspot shows all the .dll files and .drv files associated with installed codecs. QUESTION: So do I go into file manager and delete all these files? There seem to be many more video codec files than are indicated in Add/Remove Programs would indicate.

Please advise before I do something stupid out of ignorance. Thanks,
