Alrite so what i am tryin to do is burn episodes on dvd, wich has subtitles. Those episodes are AVI. files. I used WinAvi to convert them into Dvd ( VOB Files ). Everything’s okay so far, they play well on my pc, and i burned them succesfully with easy dvd creator, with a nice menu , 4 episodes per dvd, and the dvd work both in my pc and my dvd player.

Now, the problem is that when i play the dvd on my TV, the image is larger than it should be so it cuts half of the subtitles away and makes it almost impossible to read, since i dont talk japanese, it aint very good. If i play it on my pc tho, the screen is exactly how it should be.

Now ive read that a normal full screen dvd should be 720 x 480 , wich is the same as my dvd with the subtitles cut-off, ive also read that its something a TV does... kinda zooming the burned dvd, dunno why. Thats why it plays okay on my pc and wont on my TV. So ive been told i should lower it to about 700 x 460 and it should fit well on the TV now. Sounds right

What ive never been told about tho is HOW to do that. I tried searching everywhere, i couldnt find any clue how to burn my VOB in 700 x 460 instead of 720 x 480.

Theres no option to do that with any burning software i tried with. I guess i got to take it back to the step of converting. When i first took my AVI’S To convert them into VOB’s.

But the thing is with WinAvi, there aint no options allowing me to change it ,when converting AVI to DVD. I can change it to 704 x 464 when converting into mpeg1 or mpeg2, its in the options, but not when converting into dvd.

I dont wanna convert into mpeg1, 2 vcd , svcd or anything like that. Cuz first of all it takes hour to burn ( It took only 5 minutes to burn an episode with the VOB files, couple hours saved!!)
And second of all everytime i tried burning mpegs, the sound was late with the video, so its way worse.

I tried TMPGENC and from what ive seen, theres not even a way to convert avi to vob, only into vcd or svcd.

I tried a lot and i searched a lot too. Im desperate cuz everything was so perfect, i couldnt ask for more, until i saw the subtitles cut-off. It was so fast to burn, the quality was way better than when using mpegs or whatever...

Im wondering if somebody out there would happen to know how to get this to work well.

Is there any software that could change the size of the screen before or after converting the avi into vob, or while doin it? ive seen none so far.

Thanks for your help.

By the way, i could have made the question real short, but i made this long to exclude every possibilities that ive already tried and to tell everything i already know about it so we wont go at it forever for nothing.

I hope theres a way out!!

I was wondering if you received a resolution to your question. I am experiencing the same problem and am not sure what to do.

Thank you,

Vob is an image file for DVD and TMPGEnc is one of the best tool on market.Choose DVD and your video system PAl or NTSC.About your screen size is very much connected to the avi you download.Look in your settings before converting for display and you have two choices 4:3 Full Screen and 16:9 Widescreen. Also burning software has the same setting so if you get a widescreen download and convert it to full screen or you get black bars or a strech image and you loose the subs.My advice is leave all setting on automatic and get the picture the way is comming.Finaly is a downloaded file and the uploader made it this way. When you ripp a dvd by yourself you have more choices. What I’m doing to save some time in converting with TMPGenc after I got the file I use MainConcept H264 converter and I get a mpeg files to play with. Here is a tutorial how to use it: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/207083 The advantage with this is a big difference between using the TMPGenc for the entire dvd, first converting time is about 4 hours and second if is something wrong during convertion you have to start over.Having all episodes already converted one by one is much easier to use TMPGEnc Author and burn the DVD.

Makes no difference. I’ve tried making a DVD video from my own clips and it still screws up like descibed above.
I think it has something to do with TMPGEnc because even the menu it can create is too large for the screen. It suffers from the same effects as the rest of the film..

Haven’t found a resolution yet.
