Note - if you are running XP, IE’s security settings (under tools) are automatically set to medium. This prevents XP from installing codecs and other ActiveX controls when the publisher is not verified by Microsucks.
Permanent fix:
Virus scan the file, open IE and connect to internet, go to tools, security settings, reset security to low, open the file.
WMP “SHOULD” download the codec automatically, then ask you if you want to install it.
Remember to reset your IE security back to what you want when you’re done. "
.. well umm one problem.. (I have XP) when i chnage settings to low, it sometimes says it cant to do that it wont let it, and sometimes it lest meme do it but after i click okay it doenst take it into effect and witches back to medium autoimatically.. please help?

Andre Mas Guest | This codec appears to be supported by VLC (Video Lan Client), which is available from here:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc .
The nice thing about this player is that it supports multiple platforms, including MS-Windows, Linux, MacOS X and BSD.
Another open source player is MPlayer. The home page is here:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/
It too is available for multiple platforms, including Windows, Linux and MacOS X. Personally I am using the MacOS X version, which available from here:
http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/
I haven’t found any standalone CODEC for use with Quicktime.

chiuwei Guest | This is from LILY.
It totally works just dont be lazy and read all da instructions
So here are my step-by-step instruction:
1. Open I.E browser.
2. Type in URL Address below in the Address field of the browser:
http://www.audiotag.org/codecs/voxwaremetasoundaudiocodec.shtml
3. Left-click on the link to the zip file “voxware_msa_codec.zip”.
4. At the File Download pop-up window, click Save button, and select a directory on your computer where you want to store the zip file.
5. After download is completed, go to that directory and right-click on that “voxware_msa_codec.zip” file. A list of options will display, and you need to select option “Extract to...". This will display Extract window and you can select the directory where you want to extract the content of the zip file to. To make it easy, you can just choose the same directory where you stored the “voxware_msa_codec.zip” file.
6. After extracting the zip file, go to that directory and you should see a total of 8 files below being extracted:
free-codecs.txt
msms001.vwp
mvoice.vwp
vct3216.acm
vct3216.dll
voxacm.inf
voxmsdec.ax
voxmvdec.ax
9. Make sure that you close/exit out of Windows Media Player if you have it up running already.
10. Right-click on the file named “voxacm.inf” (that I mentioned in step #8). This will display the list of options, and you should click on option “Install”. This will install codec 75 code for you.
10. After installation is completed, run Windows Media Player and execute/play your music file or video file. It should play successfully this time.
If not, restart your computer, then re-run Windows Media Player again, and play your music file or video files. This should work.
Good luck! | |

REZ Guest | Wow, did I ever have a hard time installing this codec! Maybe that was just because it was past 2:00 am! Anyway, I got up this morning, and started looking for, instead of a different copy of the codec (since I thought the one I’d downloaded was damaged or something), instructions on installing it properly. The Free-Codecs.com site has general instructions for installing codecs - which I didn’t fully understand :-S - which included manually putting the .dll file in the system 32 folder, which didn’t work. So, when I found your site and saw someone else asking the same question - how do I install it??? - I decided to go back and take a second look on Free-Codecs.com. Doh!! THERE ARE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS SPECIFIC TO THE CODEC 75 DOWNLOAD BELOW THE LINK “DOWNLOAD”!!! In a nutshell, this is how you install it after downloading and unzipping:
Right-click on the file voxacm.inf and click “install”. If a prompt comes up, click “Continue Anyway”.
That’s it! It works, after all that the how-to was right in front of my face :-S
*NOTE: THE VOXACM.INF FILE MAY BE HIDDEN, FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON VIEWING HIDDEN FILE, GO TO http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/hiddenfiles.mspx FOR WINDOWS XP, OR GO TO http://www.microsoft.com/windowsME/using/workingefficiently/tips/show_hidden.asp FOR EARLIER WINDOWS VERSIONS.
(For the record, when I downloaded it, the file was not hidden.)

Ete Guest | I have an error for an MPG file. The sound doesnt play, so there must be an audio codec missing.
Ive enabled unsigned activeX controls. But mplayer2 does not download the codec. It gives an error - Unable to download an appropriate decompressor. (Error=80040200)
