boddah Guest | Hey, i’m trying to play a .mpg video, and the WMP (and every player i have) asks for this “audio codec 75”, with no more explanations or details. Where do i find this codec?

rig_inc Guest | I’m also having problems with this audio codec 75. Many of the video files I have downloaded will not play because of it. This was not a problem until I upgraded to Windows XP from Windows ME. I have tried every piece of codec software I have to no avail.

lol Guest | um... it would seem the problem is that the file is corrupted. it’ll play with windows media player 6... but it’ll stop when it reaches the corrupted part... good luck guys, this one’s going to the bin

JOK Guest | I doubt the adivce that files displaying 'need audio codec 75' are corrupt because too many of them played fine under ME or WMP 6. I take Microsoft’s warning at face value; we need to get Codec 75. Does anyone have it (or know how to get it)?

John75 Guest | Got the same message on WinXP SP1.
The solution was simple (in my case).
Start/Run... and type mplayer2 (this opens up the old media player).
Try to run the file you want and it will automaticaly download the codec it needs (it’s an old codec, dated 1999).
Done.

JOK Guest | The real solution to this common problem is to uninstall and reinstall Windows Media Player. Also rerun the codec package installer. Be sure the option to obtain updates is clicked in Windows BEFORE you do all this!

JOK, since it’s just a simple matter of launching the (much better) media player 6.4 (but far inferior to media player classic), why should anyone go through this with WMP? If it works, don’t touch it I say...

wowzer Guest | The solution posted by John was quick and easy. Although I haven’t tried to reinstall media player like JOK suggested, I found that once you downloaded the codec from mplayer2, I can play the video with winamp3.

John75 Guest | Just another proof that WMP sucks, imagine 6.4 running better than the oh so advertised WMP 9 :P :P :P
If you want my opinion download Media Player Classic or BS Player and use 6.4 only for weird and long forgotten codecs.

bottomdonkey Guest | Hey my solution to that problem was quite simple. Well i’m on XP and WMP version 9 i can’t remember. as i was connected to internet WMP looked for the codec as i tried to read a mpg-file it took quite a while but in the end comes a window asking me if i want to download a pack which i did. problem solved. hope it will work out for you

rig_inc Guest | I don’t have WMP 6.4 or classic on my system. Where can I find 6.4 for XP to download? I’ve searched all over and can only find 6.4 in versions for the earlier versions of windows, and that claim they won’t work with XP when I try to download them.

@rig_inc: Media Player 6.4 is already in Windows XP, it’s just that M$ chose to hide it
Start/Run... type mplayer2 and hit enter.

greg Guest | Actually the solution to this problem is extremely simple, if the codec downloads and gives an error message at the end, then go to your security settings in IE and change the setting for unsigned activeX control installs to be enabled..

rig_inc Guest | I’ve tried this new security settings idea by greg, and it appears to have some effect telling me that it is downloading a codec, but once it finishes WMP simply stalls out and I have to close it down and restart it before being able to use it again.
