Does anyone know of a tool that will convert a ATI .vcr file to mpeg?

ATI VCR is a proprietary format. If you have ATI Library installed (which is part of the ATI multimedia center which you probably recorded the file with), then you can choose the title you want to convert and right click on it. Choose Convert to MPEG2.

I didn’t even look at the library application until I needed to convert a .vcr file to an mpeg.

Hi,
When I convert the vcr file to mpeg, only 90 minutes of the 2 hour movie are converted. I’m stuck with a movie without an ending. The vcr file is 2 hours long, but not the mpeg converted file. Got any ideas on what I’m doing wrong?

I used my buddies pc with and ATI card to record my home vids...it recorded them as .vcr files. I renamed them as an MPEG, but I only get audio and none of the video. Real Player wont even play it, but Windows Media Player will play the audio component only. Yet, on his ATI system it played both audio and video. Any answers on how to fix this probelm would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I found through ATI library function the capability to convert their .vcr format to mpeg2 format, the problem is I have a 3 hour movie and it stops(aborts) about half way through with a strange message that I don’t have enough disk space? I have 65Gigs still left on the machine. The total file size is 3.99gbs. Is this a limitation with ATI conversion process? Is their another method to convert to another usable format or a know fix to this ATI problem?

FAT32 has a limitation of 4 GB. Consider using Windows XP or 2000, if you are not doing so already, and convert your file system to NTFS if you are using XP or 2k.

I’ve just tried the ATI Library converter from .vcr to mpeg2 and then tried to import the video into adobe premiere and it says now that the the video has an unsupported audio rate within the file. Any ideas.

Thanks

I just recently recorded a family video onto my hd its about 2gb and in .vcr format.I want to convert it to .mpg but when I go to library and right click on it there is no convert or export option for it. What should I do?

Using newest driver/ multimedia versions.

smack500,

You can download ATI .vcr codecs at http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/misc/ATIVCRX.html to make the .vcr files work on another computer.

It´s very simple.
Install the ATI-Media-Libary and start the software.
Select the .vcr-File, click the right Mouse-Button and save as MPEG2

I converted a 2 hr show from .VCR to .MPEG2. Whenever I try to play the MPEG2 version, File Player closes and I have to Restart to even get File Player to play anything else. Any answers??

Also, I want to be able to Edit the MPEG2 file (remove commercials) once it’s working, can someone please recommend a good, free editor??

I seem to be in the same situation as smack500. I see no option to convert or save as when right clicking on files in the media library. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Hey guys, I also couldn’t seem to find the export option. But, I moved all of my files back to where they had ORIGINALLY recorded...and the option was back. You see, I converted some of them, then I moved them into a different folder, that is why the option went away. Try moving all of your files back to where they orignally were.

I am able to convert my smaller files, but i have a 1hr 30min movie that it continues to say I don’t have enough space to convert.
The file size of the
.VCR files is: 4,192,304 Bytes

Drive C: is FAT32, and has 32GB remaining
Drive straight is NTFS and has 15GB remaining

Any ideas why I can’t convert to either drive ??

Thanks,

Eddie

The only thing I can think of is that maybe you have you have a limit to how much space you can use with the ATI Library. Go into the settings and see if you can tell it to take up the whole drive if needed...then see if you can convert.
