Help w/ DVD burning

Ok, i just got a DVD burner a few days ago, i can burn DVD’s fine, but is it supposed to take like 5+ hrs to burn?? cuz i think its just mostly conversions when it burns, and if it is, what kinda of file do i need my movie to be in so it doesnt take 5 hrs to burn...BTW im using Roxio Cd+DVD creator 6...any help would be great
