Hi everyone,

I’m having the same problems. I bought the camera for skydiving action shots for in extreme video’s. I find that the quality of the camera is very poor in comparison with normal DV camera’s.
And then the issue with the codec for MAC.......

Does anyone no a good codec FCP?

Kiwi, not sure what you mean by the SEDG2 thing or that it exported it. Where did it export it? If your file is now
1st clip_DivX.avi you should be able to play it in Quick Time. Are you using the avi2DivX.jar application download from
http://www.fringa.net/downloads/avi2DivX.jar ?? More information could help. Good Luck

Ok, I’ve jst been trying to get this working, and strictly speaking it isn’t a codec issue.

Video players use the files header to work out the codec, which reports as SEDG. By using a hex editor to change this to DIVX the player will play it just fine.

Google for Hex Editor, download one, open the video file, then search for SEDG and change it to DIVX, and all is fine.

My avi files played fine in Quicktime until I updated Quicktime to the latest version. After the update all I got was audio with white screen. I did all the codec searching with no luck. I agree it is not a codec issue. The solution I found that worked for my problem was the avi2DivX.jar downloaded app that is linked earlier in this thread. Good luck, I know the frustration!

If your .avi files now have the extension DivX.avi they should play in Quick time. What version of Quick time are you using? After using the DivX conversion application do you now have 2 files, one .avi and one .DivX.avi? I’ve been all over the net on this issue and the problems people are having aren’t very consistent. I have heard people finding fixes with DivX Doctor 2 and DivX Converter, both of which I tried with no success. I don’t remember where I downloaded them from but I did find them with google. Good luck, hope you figure it out.

It’s ok now. The problem was that the .avi codec was not compatible (I suppose) with my MacIntel. Now I found Divx6 Beta which works fine.

SAMSUNG MINIKET and MACINTOSH: PROBLEM SOLVED!

the matter is a conflict between the Samsung miniket codec and the “DivX 6 Decoder.component” in library > quicktime.

if you install the samsung driver contained in the cdrom included in the miniket box and then you move in another folder the “DivX 6 Decoder.component”, the miniket works and the “smov” qt files are perfect!

I only bought the camera today, and I love the small form factor and the remote camera, which seems to be unique. BTW, the camera has 1G built in, so no need to buy an additional SD card ! I was fooled into believing I needed one.

I have not yet assessed video quality however, and I agree that the lack of Mac support is annoying. However, I created a small applescript that will solve the problem easily:

http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~dellaert/software/SEDGtoDIVX.zip

From the reviews below and other sources, it seems that the solution is to simply change the codec name from “SEDG” to “DIVX”, and install the DivX codec, available at http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/.

Unfortunately, the only options I found to do so were HexEdit or a Java application that was a bit clunky. I remembered that the unix utility “sed” is very handy to globally replace strings. In addition, it is quite easy to create droplets with Applescript, and you can execute shell scripts easily: http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2002/tn2065.html

The result is a very simple “droplet” that does the trick. Avavilable under GPL license (http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html). NO WARRANTY.
