Hi, recorded a video a while back and tried to play it the other day, but windows mediaplayer complained about a missing codec by the name of “ISME”, tried chasing it down through WMP but it couldn’t find the codec on microsoft’s site.

I did later find out that it was made by Intel but thats it, can’t find anymore info.

Can anyone help me? thanks.

I know labish I’d already seen that page but did know what to make of it because I do have roxio installed!

Anyway I decided to inspected the avi with a hex editor and searched for roxio and found this:
“ROXIO Video Codec.2.0.249.0”
I then did another search in the registry and found the library file named:
“C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\SharedCom\RoxioVideoMPEG.dll”
which aparently contains the decompressor.

I now know that’s what I must of used when I recorded the tv show with my tv viewer program, now I’m lost!

The tv viewer still shows the roxio codec for recording, but Windows or WMP does not seem to support it, when I view the installed video codecs on the system roxio is just not there? Tried “RegSvr32 RoxioVideoMPEG.dll” but didn’t make any difference.

Anyone know how to get Windows to recognize this decompressor/codec? Or anyone have any idea why the tv-viewer knows about this codec and Windows doesn’t?

Ok, after some research it’s all clear. Apparently the ISME codec is installed as a DirectShow Filter NOT as a Codec. Thats why WMP won’t even touch it.

The fix well very simple, just get GraphEdit that ships with DirectX SDK and use it to convert the avi and make sure you encode it with a proper codec. (Well why didn’t I think of that?)

Anyway hope this helps someone in the future, as this had me stumpt for a while and with no help anywhere. If anyone needs the graph template to do the conversion let us know (if I’m still around that is).

And thanks labish for at least trying smiley
