Applications do not see AC3 codecs

I installed AC3 codec, but most of my applications (Adobe Aftereffects, Ulead, VirtualDub) do not see it.
WinMedia Player is the only program that doesn’t seem to have a problem with the new codec.
Please help

Aha! That’s because it’s not a codec! It’s a filter. It’s lower-level than a codec.
If you state specifically what you’re trying to do perhaps someone on the board could give you directions to circumvent the fact it’s a filter.

How can I make my Ulead 7.0 read/edit/render avi files written wit AC3?
As of now it can’t read the sound.
