Hello everyone, a friend of mine has an MPEG video that won’t play in Windows Media Player on her XP machine. She has the latest version of Windows Media Player. The error message is about not having the proper CODEC to play the file.

She sent the file to me and i can play it on my Windows 2003 machine with Windows Media Player so obviously i have de codec for it.

My question is: Is there a tool or a procedure to find out which CODEC is used by a file that you have on your drive ?

Thanks

Jazzboy

Yes there are several:
avicodec - http://avicodec.duby.info
gspot - http://headbands.com/gspot
videoinspector - http://www.kcsoftwares.com/index.php?vtb

You mention of her not being able to play an mpeg file. Chances are it’s mpeg-2 instead of mpeg-1. It could also be a renamed avi or something.
