What did I do wrong?

I am very new to burning DVDs and such. So, after spending some time browsing some forums so that I could understand how to do this to the best of my ability, I gave it a try the other day. To begin, the movie that I wanted to burn was an AVI file. Using WinAVI I converted this to DVD format. What I ended up with was a bunch of VOB, BUP, and IFO files. I then used Nero Burning ROM (selected DVD-Video and clicked new), added all of the VOB, BUP, and IFO files that i got from the conversion into the VIDEO_TS folder and proceeded to burn it on a DVD-R. Everything seemed to work out well but when I played it in my DVD player it would only play the first few seconds of each chapter. If i fast-forward through it i can see that everything is there, and both the audio and video are working properly. Also, if I try to play it on my computer it works perfectly. Is it just my DVD player? Any help would be appreciated.

You did very well until you put all the files from video ts in Nero.If you want to use Nero Vision add only vob files and be sure you put them in order from top to bttm.The easy way is to use Clone DVD2 just point to video ts and the software is doing to job.Here is a link:http://www.slysoft.com/en/

I’m new also.... I’ve been told that any “old” DVD players will not work.... a new one I tried
the picture/sound quality was terrible....
