I searched through internet but could not find a downloadable codec to convert existing uncompressed 24-bit avi to 16-bit. Anybody can help? Thanks in advance!

Can you state more explicitly what you are trying to do? Your post is very vague with your mentions of 24-bit RGB, 16-bit RGB, and YUV.
IF what you’re trying to do is convert an AVI from 24-bit uncompressed to 16-bit uncompressed, open it with VirtualDub, then click on video, color depth, and pick 16-bit for your output. Then click file, save as avi and you’re done.
