Avi - once .wmv can't play on quicktime

Hi all I downoaded a movie that had hdtv.lol.avi in the title so I’m assuming it may have been a .mov or a .wmv and now I can’t play it in quicktime since it took me 2 days to download I’d really like to be able to watch it :-) I have a G5 fat lotta good it still won’t play even in Final Cut 5 help me please ........
