If you install xp again your video card should be reinstall too first directx 9 and go to manufacturer for your video card site and download the latest driver. After this if you have a LCD monitor install the software is comming with.

Similar problem. almost all of my .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, etc. files look all whitewashed and pale, or in just off colors. They all worked fine a couple of days ago untill I did some driver updating(from both windows and nvidia.) When I back off my video acceleration to disable DirectDraw and Direct3D, they play normally. Well, not to be lazy, but I shouldn’t have to do that every time I want to watch a video. Any Ideas?

Same for me... I installed the latest Nvidia drivers and then same problem has everybody here: greenish, pale,...
Directx 9c was already installed before the problems.
I looked at the files I was trying to play. Codec is Xvid. I was using Klite codec pack. I uninstalled everything (codecs) and tried every pack I could find on the net ( koepi xvid, klite full, nimo, Xp pack, etc) but tyhe problem wad still there. So I tried to configure the Xvid codec and found that forcing the output to RGB helps. The colors are ok but the image quality is not that great (pixelated, compressed).
I would say the problem comes from Nvidia... Or just me being to stupid an dnot being able to configure the new drivers i installed...
Anybody has an idea about that?
Could it just come from the config of those nvidia drivers? Where to change that????

Thanks anyway!

Winny

So, it looks like it comes from those “latest nvidia drivers”.
What video card do you have?
I am not really willing to mess up with my config right now... I need those drivers to run a lot of things here...

Hey guys,

Same problem here... whitewashed avi video’s, with messed up colors (color bleeding it looks like). I have an NVidia GeForce 6800 GT. Tried downloading different codec packs, different codecs, installed and uninstalled many times.

The problems seemed to start when i updated my NVidia Driver... so I rolled back the driver, everything worked fine.

Just to be sure, I reinstalled it... same problems. Rolled back again, no problems.

Must be new drivers (as far as I can tell).

Ok, this is what you must do

Go to the Nvidia options panel
Go to Color Correction
Set the 'Apply color changes to:' on 'All' instead of 'Desktop'

worked for me =}

Same deal with the nvidia color thing worked for me too. I went to desktop properties, settings, advanced, my video card tab, and then color correction and then changed desktop to all and everything works perfect now.

Geezus that was annoying.

Great reading this is. I have been at this problem for a couple of days (family man, so time each day is limited). Unfortunately, I found this forum after I reinstalled my XP and found that I got the same problem. I will try the setting and report back here. I have a Nvidia fx 5700 by the way...
