Same problem here. It doesn’t see DVDs at all but does everything else just fine. Firmware flash didn’t help (it was the same # version I already had installed. Also tried deleting the 2nd IDE channel, didn’t help. The Dell folks in Bangalore tried walking me through some registry hacks but I didn’t have the entries they wanted me to erase. I am no engineer but this sounds like a bad batch of decoding chips to me.

I have the samsung cd-rw/dvd sn-324b & everything works but the sound when playing a DVD. All other sounds work on the computer (CDs work as well). I’ve tried in WMP & Real Player - same thing - no sound. Any suggestions?

Hi, I had that problem in the past. (DVD playback without sound) I couldn’t fix it however I found a program that played them with sound. I don’t remember the name of the program but look for “free dvd player” at google and it should be in the first page.

If you have a Dell Inspiron 1100 with a Samsung cdrw/dvd sn-324b here’s what you can try:
go to start menu & open the run dialog box,
type in, regedit and then hit enter,
under my computer look for and open,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.->SYSTEM->CurrentControlSet->Control->Class->
Then look for this EXACT info in the registry, Must Match!!

open this file and delete the “upper filter” and “lower filter”.
now close out of the registry.Give it a minute...Double click on My Computer and look for your cdrw/dvd drive. It should show up and the driver should be fixed. If not try a reboot. I know this because this is what a dell rep. just did for me. I took notes. My cdrw/dvd drive now works.
