AVI file error

I am trying to watch an AVI file that wasn’t complete (using OSX) and i get the following error:

You may experience problems paying a video track because the right compressor could not be found. Would you like close the movie or continue?

Other message is: Couldn’t open preview file "" .dvd.scr.avi because there is an error in the program. Does anyone understand that what means and what compressor i need to download?
