Been battling same problem in WMP 11. Will play avi’s but not mpg or mpeg. From all I’ve read - appears the “format” (?) of some of those file extensions is MPEG-2 vs MPEG-1. Both 1 & 2 can have above file extensions - so how do you tell the difference?? Anyone have a clue? I can play the “tests” in Microsoft, for both mpg and mpeg, which I presume are MPEG-1. Why then, under GOD’s GREEN EARTH are video camera’s using a MPEG-2 format if nothing supports it, i.e, WMP 11?? MPEG-2 needs, what what I’ve read a DVD decoder?
WARNING! WARNING! - Remember Lost in Space? - WHATEVER YOU DO - DO NOT PURCHASE WINDVD8 GOLD. The software is sooo messed up - 20-30 error messages when trying to install. So the company gives some hellacious instructions on downloading from net - well, error messages are down to 4 BUTT could not find it anywhere to uninstall!!! I ended up having to restore my system back a week due to the fact it kept trying to load DVD 8 on startup, although I had done a “search and destroy” mission on my entire system that had WinDVD8 in any file or folder name.
Also what’s with the file mcspmpeg.ax - where do you get it? where do you put it? will it work with WMP11 to play mpg or mpeg?
Thanks to those much more knowledgeable than me for replying with some help....any good FREE DVD decoders out there? Went to both COMP USA and Micro Center and they only carried WinDVD8 - I raised hell - taking it back tomorrow to MicroCenter for even the company says their software doesnt' work!!

I accidentally deleted all music of my computer, MP3’s, WMA’s etc completely of my P.C. I used a program to get my music back, only to find it says one of two things, Specified module cannot be found or The file you are attempting to play has an extension that does not match the file format, Playing the file may result in unexpected behaviour. Is there a solution to making these files play again, as I have around 2000 songs that are not playing, I don’t want the headache of having re-download them all again & there are some rare songs that cannot be replaced, any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thank you all soooo much. I hated PC Studio 2 but at least it didn’t cripple my media players! What are Samsung thinking with PC Studio 3? I’ve uninstalled the D900 software and bingo! back to normal. Anyone got a technical explanation of why this works?

SAMSUNG FIX - Hi again, new version (v.3.1) with this particular bugfix available for download from official website.

I’ve installed, updated, rebooted and tested. All back to normal. MPEGs work again in Mediaplayer and Realone. Still a godawful bit of software but, as there’s no alternative, we’re stuck with it.

Hope this helps.

Same symptoms as everyone reporting. No video from any player including the classic mediaplayer. No SAMSUNG software installed. Any thoughts?

Thanks so much to those who reported that Samsung PC studio was the culprit. I would never have thought of that!!

I tried everything from
installing codec packs
To reinstalling DirectX (had to hack that to make it work)
To reinstalling my sound card
To upgrading WMP (because it can’t be reinstalled in XPTo

Thankfully the very general error message I received orginally in WMP10 was replaced by the slightly specific C00D11B1 error by which I found this forum

Thanks again!
