Well, I kinda have a problem like this. I can’t play video files for some reason. Everytime I start one, it takes up pretty much all the CPU(99%) and doesn’t stop. I have no idea why this does this. I’ve run virus scans and security scans and such and still the problem remains. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have the same problem.

Everything was working fine until I installed Nero. Then my .mpeg files wouldnt show thumbnails and they wont play in any media player. I have downloaded every major codec to no avail. I even uninstalled Nero but they still would not play.

No idea what to do.

I’ve got the same problem with Mpgs Mpegs.

Media players wont play back video files, so im force to use powerdvd version 5 because version 6 wont work.

powerdvd version 6 has the codec but media player is still dead and wont play my video files.

try powerdvd version 5

Just use the divx player in playing mpeg movie file and avi file. If you don’t have one, download the latest version of divx (divx 6.2.2 bundle with player)

Exactly the same problem, all Mpegs have suddenly stopped playing with WMP 10 with message [“Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."] Have Divx codec and player [reinstalled it] tried a codec pack without resolve- unistalled codec pack. Reinstalled WMP 10 and tried 9 again, nothing.

"....THE ORIGINAL MPEG CODECS THAT WMP USED TO USE ARE NOW CORRUPT!

SOLUTION = DOWNLOAD DIRECTX 9.0c

TRUST ME, ALL WILL BE GRAND AFTER THIS,"

Had a similar problem and download of directx
9.0c fixed it. Thanks for the tip.

Delete all codecs even ac3 filter all divx and xvid files and folders. If you have all your movies in divx movies folder " like I do " move them some where else for now. Now the answer to your dreams!!! Download ace mega codecs pack 6.03 perfessional edition. It’s free and only 49.2 mb in size. If you can’t find it go to google.

From what I’ve been told... apparently microsoft tightened the specs required for mpeg/mpeg files thereby excluding files that don’t comply to those specs (particularly files using Apple’s mpg codecs)... so it’s not actually a codec issue - it’s totallly media player 9+ (though it only affects 9 after you update but rollback doesn’t remove the changes).

So just use an alternative player and curse MS for being controlling freaks.

Not sure how factual that is though because other people are saying it’s BS. :/

After finding so many people in the same condition, I found that simply (yes, really) going to http://www.gromkov.com/faq/faq2004-0083.html and getting the mpeg2dec.exe file fixed all my mpg files.
