Well I got that FOURCC code WMV3 error message. So I got the WMV3 codec from www.fourcc.org and installed it. When I re-opened the video file, fter installing the WMV3 codec, I still got the same error: FOURCC code WMV3. Then I re-installed Windows Media Player 10 and tried the video again and I got the same error once more.

Anyone have any idea of what’s happening?

You should be more specific about what program gives you the error and what the exact error message says.
1. Is the file in an avi or asf/wmv container? If you don’t know feed the file in avicodec (http://avicodec.duby.info)
2. If it’s an avi could the file be truncated? If so try media player classic or avipreview or virtualdub to open it.
3. downloading wmp 10 should have worked, since it has wmv3 in it. other places to try to get the codec are on this page. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/format/codecdownload.aspx
4. (This is what I suspect your problem may be). You’re using an avi container, and you want to do editing with the file with a program like virtualdub. wmv3 is natively a directshow codec (for the asf/wmv container), but it’s been ported to vfw (video for windows) so it can work with avi’s. To do any editing you specifically need the windows media video 9 vcm package, at the bottom of the codecdownload page above, and also available here

1) It’s a .avi file.
2) How do I pull up Windows Media Player Classic
3) Still not working
4) I’m not editing. I’m just trying to play the file.

Help!
