I just downloaded a movie & when I extracted the files the file extension is AVG Update File. Now, it will play in my VLC media player but the sound doesn’t play. I have tried changing the file extension but that doesn’t work. Is there a different program ( I used power archiver) that will extract it as the mpeg file it is supposed to. Thanks for your help.

Oh my! You just don’t know enough about filetypes and stuff! Better get some reading at slashcam.com!

If it plays in VLC, it IS a video file. Extensions are only bothering badly programmed software. Good programms know the contents from “tags” inside the file.
If you like to know which format the video is in you’ll need additional software like “GSpot” which determines thy filetype and the probably missing codecs. This I guess might be the problem causing the sound not to play - has nothing to do with extension.

Good luck and learn something!

What a jerk! “Learn something”. !!! Isn’t the point of asking a question on a message board in search for advice? Friendly advice?

I did a search on AVG files and CUE because I had never heard of them before. Landed on this site and was shocked to read that asshat’s response.

Get a program called Alcohol which will burn this cue file to a cd. You will then have a program installation cd.

Hay, I’m as geek as I wanna be, and I didn’t know why I kept getting AVG update extensions, so thanks guys (except dorkus learn some manners).
I’ll try undisker first and if that doesn’t work maybe ISO buster or Deamons tools.

download DAEMON TOOLS and right click (after download) on the icon on the bottom. then go to the top option Virtual CD/DVD-ROM, and mount image. look for the file in the mount image pop up and click it. your video player choices will pop up and you will enjoy your movie... smiley))
