and to make matters worse.. NOTHING WORKS NOW~!
all my files that worked just fine before i did the whole installing and run “regsvr32.exe l3codecx.ax” junk, dont work now~!
what the heck happend? is there a way i can UNdo this?
i would rather not be able to watch the file that needed the codec.. then to not be able to watch/listen to my other files.

labish Guest | If you finish crying you can read me now.If you use WinXp and I hope you have an enable restore system go to the last restore point just before the problem started. Also you may downlod Sherlock the codec detective from this site just use search and is going to tell you what codec got sick.http://www.free-codecs.com/

shouling Guest | thank you for offering your help labish~!
o.k. so i did a system restore.. nothing got fixed.
i went to that site.. but i couldnt find the sherlock thing you mentioned.
although... what i did manage to find was that, for some reason my computer isnt reading that i even have an audio output. so as far as my system knows.. i have no speakers at all.. therefore; no sound.
is there something i have to do to get it realize i DO have speakers and would like use of them? (other than a restart cuz that didnt work)
thank you~!

labish Guest | I start crying too.Ok look for No:296 http://www.free-codecs.com/search.php And the way you say it you lost some driver for your sound card.Restore system works if is on so try again: Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.Clicking on any day from may calendar is going to show you what you install or uninstall and if you have a check point. If you think is easier to fix it this way uninstall the sound card and restart the computer but before that find out the driver for your card and put it on disc or folder.Good Luck

shouling Guest | well i tried everything you said.. and well... i am still screwed.
the driver program is telling me that i do not have the chip the driver is for.. witch is odd.. cuz its the same driver and chip that worked just fine before.
BUT.. my friend came over to look at it.. and now i am getting a new sound chip tomorrow. apperently the chip died.
its confusing though cuz my computer isnt even reading that there is a problem.
*shrugs*
oh well.
i thank you very much for your help labish~!
you are great~! | |

labish Guest | The sound card is on motherboard and sometimes they may fail but if you have a PCI souncard it’s a different story.Don’t jump on a conclusion is a chip before you try what you can.I’m older than I want to be but I’ve never had a sound card dead.Try the right driver or if you have a recovery cd use it.For motherboard some big stores in town have a test for it and you can find out but that means to remove it and is not an easy job.Ask for some help.
