Jumpy Mpeg video

Whenever I try to play a mpeg video file picture seems to play to fast (the sound is normal). the picture skips and jumps and the timer moves about twice as fast as it should, then the picture freezes and the sound carries on at normal speed till its finished.

I think all my codecs are in order (gspot says the files should play).

This happens on all players. Does anyone have a solution cos' all i can play at the moment are avi’s or wmv’s.
