how do i uninstall codecs?

after installing codecs computer would claim i have no audio hardware.
So I tried to remove sound codecs, i removed everything that i could but still no sound.
how do I remove it all and make my sound work wihtout uninstalling windows?

If you use Win XP go to a restore point before the problem started.Or if you have a recovery cd from your computer manufacturer look for your sound card driver if not find out the name of your sound card and download the drive.Or if you are more than a nooby uninstall the sound card and reboot is going to find a new harware on your computer and ask for a driver or the Windows CD.Good Luck.
