Volomon Guest | Uninstall your display driver, uninstall all codecs, reboot, reinstall your display driver and codecs.

Kubek Guest | Hi there,
got same issue - new K-Lite codec pack (v. 3.4). No video just sound (VLC played them very well, though).
So I went to Catalyst Control Center (CCC) -> Video -> Avivo Color asic -> Checked the “Use application settings” and voilla - the video was there!!!
Damn, spent almost whole day trying to resolve this one .
Hope it helped You.
PS It’s an ATI X1650 Card.

Doctor Watson Guest | If anyone of you are still having problems right-click on your desktop and go to properties. Then go to the settings tab and click the Troubleshoot... button. TURN YOUR HARDWARE ACCELERATION DOWN!!! I had all the same stuff happen and this fixed it

Tapakip, the same thing you did just worked for me. I changed it from custom to home, and now it works fine. Wow, what a relief, i have no idea what caused it... but now i know how to fix it. Thanks for fiddiling around and fixing the problem.
I wonder if ati knows about this?? I’m gonna look on their site, if i find anything i’ll let everyone know.
The same problem and solution also for me! I have an ATI X850XT.

CPershing Guest | Downloaded a video off Limewire earlier, and no video was displayed. Tried my other movies / videos, and no matter what I tried running them with, nothing worked.
However, the above does work. I right clicked on my Nvidia Settings down by the clock, clicked on nView Display Settings, Click on Clone’s arrow, and switch it the opposite of what is checked. Works great after that.
Thanks for the above advice, I was completely clueless.

Felixtc2k Guest | In VLC you have the option of setting the type pf graphical processing you will use. DirectX, Direct 3d, OpenGL etc. You can find the settings in the VLC Program menu under Start/VideoLAN/Quick Settings/ Video /Set Videomode to ????
Try a few different settings, and see if this helps.
My ATI card likes OpenGL mode.
Cheers

CATALYST 7.12 IS THE BAD GUY HERE...

xarin Guest | I realize this is a very old topic and long dead, but the info in it just saved me from a big headache. The change from Custom to Home in ATI catalyst control center instantly fixed my lack of video. Thanks guys.

Entree Rep: 0 Joined: 12 Feb 2008 Posts: 1 OFFLINE | Windows media player crashed whenever I tried playing my *.avi files. VLC played sound but no video. I have an ATI graphics card using 7.6 driver.
I think the setting in ATICatalyst is a little random and doesn’t work for everyone. Certainly didn’t work for me. So, after mucking around with this for quite a long time and reinstalling codecs/ media players I found the proper fix:
Download DirectX 10 and install it (can be obtained from the Microsoft website). Fixed!!
