mine was a real basic fix that took me forever to figure out in VLC. All I did was finally realize to go into Settings: Preferences and make sure my output module is set to default.

ouch... Stop messing up the guys pc.

Look, download Gspot. Start it up. Drop the file you have problems with on it. Then on the bottom it has a button to render the file. either a or v or both. It will try, it will show you which filters are being tried out. (on the right) above is a small screen to preview it. If one half doesn’t work, you’ll see why. It will show you, that either the filter is not available, or perhaps the filter is 'broken'. Another possibility is that by loading up those deadly filter paks that you are having contention among the filters and the proper one can’t or won’t load.
If you ngo to the menu in Gspot you can alsolist all the filters in your system, along with the specific types of a/v they decode. If the filter is broken it will show up in red. It will show as missing or whatever the situation.

Give it a shot.
And I fully suggest getting rid of those filter paks. Use Gspot to see what filters you ACTUALLY need, and then load those!, not the the whole kithcen sinks worth, just because they are there. Many of these paks not only cause issues for windows and scramble the filters settings, but also contain spyware, and or viruses.

luck.

Hello
Guest
I have just done what topcat said and it worked! Once the files are rendered under the main file menu in gspot there is the option 'play using associated player'. It worked a treat,

Thank you

right click on desktop / properties / settings / advanced / monitor / screen refresh rate

I had it set at 75 and when I changed it to 60 it worked fine.

i’m having the same problem with mpg playback in winamp 5.092. i use k-lite codec pack 2.53 full, everything will play in mv2 or wmp. avi and asf play in winamp, but mpeg will only give me sound.
if i uninstall k-lite and reinstall with playback only settings, it works, but then some files request indeo or other uninstalled codec.
some codec must conflict with winamp’s mpg config. someone HELP sad

oh ... at last! smiley
i first experienced this problem this spring... from time to time i tried to solve it, but never succeed.

i did almost everything:
- install winxp several times (with and without sp2)
- install different ati-drivers
- install codecs
- and so on...

then i came across BenH’s posting... changed some settings in vlc and everything’s working fine now!

hey guys, you made my day! wink

Just to confirm everything that was said earlier by Tapakip, open the ATI Catalyst Control Centre (as Advanced,)
Graphics Settings -> Video -> Standard Settings. Change the Video Standard Settings, Video Presets to “Home” and click OK. The video should then work. :-)

I didn’t try any of the other methods and they too could be valid. Thank $DEITY for Google searching to this site. That’s what I say. Along with thanks for all your efforts.

BenH you rock my socks. That totally worked without messing with my ATI settings. How did you ever think to do that? Its like the most random option in VLC

I had the same problem with my nvidia card. I use BSPlayer and got it working by:

Options
preferences
video
default renderer ->set to DirectDraw Surface something

Hope this helps for you guys too
