MPC Problems - Missing Codec(s)?

As some of you may already know, you cannot view launch.com videos using the Firefox browser.

However, there has been several attempts to work around this problem, one being a Firefox extension called “play-launch” which allows the firefox user to view launch videos when used in combonation with Media Player Classic.

With the play-launch extension installed, you are supposed to be able to click on the video link on launch.com as usual, and instead of viewing it on the launch site, MPC pops up and plays the video for you.

Below is a topic I posted on the MozillaZine.org forums concerning the problem I am having. There has been no replies and I thought I’d have better luck getting an answer here.

I am having problems viewing videos on launch.com using Media Player Classic and the play-launch extension. (It is stated on the play-launch extension’s download page that it is compatible with Windows when used with MPC.)

When I click on the link to view the video, MPC pops up as it should, however, instead of playing the video an error message appears which reads:

MPC could not render some of the pins in the graph, you may not have the needed codecs or filters installed on the system.

The following pin(s) failed to find a connectable filter:

File stream renderer OUT
Stream 0
ASX file parser
file stream renderer

File stream renderer OUT
Stream 0
.RAM file parser
file stream renderer

I assumed that this message was informing me I needed a certain codec to view the video.

Since I cannot use applications such as GSpot to figure out exactly which codec(s) I need (you cannot save launch videos to your system that I know of), I downloaded one of those “all-in-one” codec packs, but still received the same error message.

I don’t think this is due to a flaw in the play-launch extension, as I have read of others using this same method to view launch videos without problems, but my knowledge of anything video-related in this sense is obviously very minimal.

Note: I am using Windows XP SP2 and have the latest versions of MPC, Firefox and the play-launch extension. Also, I have set MPC as the default player for all video formats.

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

The only launch I found is on Yahoo and I use Firefox and Opera on both I got this when I try to open a video file: To use this application with Netscape, you must use a 4.7x or 7.1 version. Download now.Please use the following error code when writing to Yahoo! Help. (Error Code: 12),and the link is for downloading Netscape 8.0.Have try Netscape?

You can view launch videos using Netscape as well as Internet Explorer. However, the idea was to be able to use Firefox instead of switching browsers. It’s a pretty common problem among Firefox/Launch users.

The instructions on http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=206216 still work. I just installed it with no problems. I did it in three steps (probably longer than required):
1st - Install ActiveX via the “Missing Plugin Alert” link.
2nd - Install the User Agent Switcher via the “Letting Firefox claim that it is Internet Explorer” link.
3rd - Finalize everything by going through the steps on “Viewing Launch.com videos” link to add a new User Agent type for Firefox.

You should now be fully ready to go, so login into yahoo, switch your user agent to Netscapte 7.1 (or whatever your setup the agent for Firefox as), search for your video on Launch.com and listen/watch away.
