hi... i got a few films recently from a friend. they wouldnt work at all.. no sound, no video. so i updated my software (media player 9 i have now) and downloaded the suggested codecs on this site when i stumbled upon it via google. ive been using Gspot to find out the correct audio and video codecs that the films are intended for, and have managed to get all audio working sucessfully. ive had limited sucess with getting video to display properly, though. with Gspot, the most commonly suggested codec is XviD... i have the latest version installed, but none of the films display video correctly. i can’t figure out what’s wrong. the problem is that the video is warped, has a dark greenish tinge to it, and is extremely pixellated.
maybe someone can help me with this? offer a little advice? i’m totally puzzled, heh.

thanks. smiley
hoping for a positive response.. it would be much appreciated! smiley wink

Use the stable build of XviD from here:
http://www.roeder.goe.net/~koepi/xvid.shtml - XviD-04102002-1.exe (411kb). Uninstall other versions first.

Avoid using the latest versions of XviD. They’re not stable and are only experimental, so naturally, they’re buggy.

Have you got any codec packs installed? Also, I believe installing Windows Media Player 9 may be causing extra problems because it has a lot of issues with playback of XviD. It is also an intrusive piece of software.

Try using media players like Zoom Player, BSPlayer etc.

Just an additional testimonial:

I was having the same problem: ripped videos that played sound fine, and video was just a bunch of pixellated blocks. The new version of the codec solved that...I think playback looks better even on older xvid files.
